Rihanna can celebrate however she likes since her Savage x Fenty lingerie brand is now worth $1 billion. Forbes reported that a round of Series B funding raised $115 million for the company’s upcoming expansion into retail, led by private equity firm L Catterton, in which LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has a stake.

The brand saw revenue growth of more than 200% last year and “increased its active VIP member base by more than 150%,” according to a statement from the company. Before the latest funding round, Rihanna’s estimated stake in the company was $85 million.

The news of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty brand reaching a $1 billion valuation comes after the announcement that the luxury fashion company LVMH put the singer’s Fenty fashion line on hold. However, both the company and Rihanna will focus on the long-term goals and development of every branch of the Fenty brand.

2. Nigeria: Davido named one of the most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine

On February 17, 2021, Nigerian superstar, Davido hit another milestone in his career. He was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. The excerpt for the selection was written by Nigerian rapper and BBNaija Lockdown winner, Laycon.

Other Nigerians like Odun Eweniyi, FK Abudu and Dami Odufuwa of Feminist Coalition were also on the list.

3. South Africa: NPA throws out murder and attempted murder case against actress Zinhle Mabena

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Wednesday confirmed Isibaya actress Zinhle Ngwenya’s (née Mabena’s) was a free woman after it decided not to place the attempted murder and murder case against her on to the roll. NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the court decided that more investigation was needed before Zinhle’s case could be put on the roll.

Police confirmed the actress appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court after being arrested on February 16 in connection with an attempted murder case against her husband, Robert Ngwenya, and the death of his bodyguard.

4. Ghana: Fameye clears air on his alleged arrest

Singer Fameye has denied reports of his arrest on Monday for driving an unlicensed car. Radio show host Ola Michael was the first to report that the artiste had been arrested, the reason for his inability to show up for a scheduled interview. However, in a video posted to Facebook, the ‘Nothing I Get’ hitmaker said that he had not violated any law that warrants an arrest.

Although Fameye confirmed that he was indeed stopped by the police, he revealed that his encounter with them was misinterpreted. He explained that he had been stopped on his way to his interview with Ola Michael, adding that his interaction with the police had gone on longer than he had anticipated.

5. Naomi Osaka defeats Serena Williams 6-3, 6-4, advances to Australian Open final

Serena Williams came within reach of a record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title, playing well enough to get to the closing days of a major tournament. However she was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Naomi Osaka in the Australian Open semifinals.

Osaka, who also beat Williams in the 2018 US Open final, reached her fourth major title match and stretched her winning streak to 20 matches by claiming the last eight points. Osaka will face 22nd-seeded American Jennifer Brady for the championship on Saturday. Brady beat No. 25 Karolina Muchova 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
