Louis Vuitton owner LVMH and music star Rihanna have agreed to pause her Fenty fashion label less than two years after its launch, the French luxury goods giant said on Wednesday.

A statement released by French conglomerate, LVMH said that Fenty’s ready-to-wear production, based in Europe, would be “put on hold” pending better conditions.

“LVMH and Rihanna reaffirm their ambition to concentrate on the growth and the long-term development of Fenty ecosystem focusing on cosmetics, skincare and lingerie,” it added.

It has been noticed that the Fenty Instagram account has been inactive since January 1, and there hasn’t been a new collection dropped on the site since November 2020, when Rihanna collaborated with one of her favourite shoe designers Amina Muaddi on a capsule of electric blue and white PVC sexed-up stilettos.

All is not lost as LVMH-backed investment fund L Catterton plans to concentrate its efforts on supporting and growing Rihanna’s cosmetics companies Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin, and also to become more involved with her incredibly successful lingerie company Savage x Fenty.

Recall that Rihanna is the first Black woman to preside over an LVMH brand. It is also the first time the luxury group has launched a fashion brand from scratch since Christian Lacroix in 1987. If LVMH decides to permanently close the high fashion brand’s doors, Rihanna’s Fenty would go down in the history-making books.
