The 2020 Miss USA final event held Monday, November 9, under coronavirus protocols at Graceland Exhibition Centre in Memphis, Tennessee. 22-year-old Asya Danielle Branch, who was the first Black Miss Mississippi, walked away with the Miss USA 2020 crown, becoming the first woman to receive the crown from her state.

In 2018, she was crowned Miss Mississippi and went on to compete in the Miss America competition where she finished unplaced. She however placed the second runner up in the pageant’s Quality of Life awards category.

2019 was the year Asya’s dreams began to come true. She contested for the Miss Mississippi USA title and won and now she is Miss USA 2020. She will go ahead to represent the United States in the Miss Universe 2020 pageant.

Asya Branch holds a degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from the University of Mississippi. She is also the owner of a cosmetics line, Branch Beauty.

Watch her crowning moment

Asya has received criticism in the media for her presumed affiliation with the incumbent president of the USA, Donald Trump as well as her stance on gun laws. When asked about this during the competition, she said, “we’ve lost trust in the systems that seem to keep our country running, from the media to business to our government.”

She is very passionate about Prison reform and seeks to provide support for children of people who are incarcerated. Most of her inspiration for this comes from the fact that her father is currently in prison and his arrest affected and changed her life greatly.

Congratulations Queen Asya Branch! May your reign be fruitful and victorious.
