Last week, African celebrities and top influencers showed up across the continent looking astonishing in fashion takes that we instantly fell in love with! From edgy and ‘boyish’ ensembles that fearlessly showcased their personalities to classic feminine cuts, there was no shortage of individualistic style. From scarlet reds to the blackest black, the best-dressed women proved once again that there is truly beauty in diversity.
As expected, once the gates to ‘outside’ flung open and life gradually shifted back to normalcy, events popped back on the scene and gave us (and our ever-stylish stars) a much-needed reason to dress up. All of a sudden, we’ve all gone from the at-home loungewear and couldn’t-be-bothered vibe to looking for any reason to turn up in full-on Barbie doll status. The glow-up, shimmer and shine our feeds witnessed last week is evidence of this.
The looks
Nigerian actress Linda Osifo has always been a bona fide stylista and her appearance last week further solidified this. Showing up in a bespoke Sue Manuell frock with fringe and shimmering detailing, the rich melanin-skinned bombshell was an impressive sight as she dazzled and left no shadows in view.
Unapologetic in her style and attitude, Nigerian fashion designer, Tolu Bally‘s sense of style is definitely pin-worthy. The style star has owned her right in the fashion scenes as she continues to showcase a style that is bold, edgy and classy. She consistently serves back-to-back jaw-dropping looks from her brand that we approve of and did so yet again last week.
South African celebrity chef Lorna Maseko proves her culinary skills aren’t limited to the kitchen. Last week, she served a sizzling red number by Scalo Designer which boasts rich feather details and an extra train on the side.
Back in West Africa, Ghanaian style star Nana Adjoa Walker stunned in an over-the-top MILIRV mini dress with disproportionate sleeves and silver details. She finished off the look with an emerald green clutch and leopard print pumps.
The styles shared by African women and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them.
