While it seems that Essence and Made in Lagos are still having a global run two years after their release, Wizkid has alerted fans that it’s time to begin a new music era. Following a new album and potential collaborations tease, the Grammy award-winning artist has finally released his first single of the year titled ‘Bad to Me’—a groovy, club-centric tune that has been trending heavy since its release on Wednesday.
Wizkid is not the only artist who is beginning a new era this week. Mavin Records’ leading lady, Ayra Starr, after the global success of her debut album, 19 and Dangerous, is out with a new single titled Rush. The Gen-Z singer proves to listeners that she isn’t a one-album wonder. The most highly anticipated single of the year, Bad To Me by Nigeria’s most-decorated artiste, Wizkid is finally out. Bad To Me is Wizkid’s first official single this 2022. The song is an Amapiano-infused tune produced by P2J and serves as a follow-up to the longest charting Afrobeat album on Billboard, Made In Lagos. The lyrics, tune, and overall flair of the track have helped to make it a hit since its release.
#2. Ayra Starr – Rush
Ayra Starr, who has been praised as a promising newcomer to the Afrobeat scene, is out with a new song titled Rush. The upbeat song is her first official single since her debut album, 19 and Dangerous. On Rush, the Mavin Record signee sings about how she doesn’t have time for hate as she’s focused on pursuing success and living her life.
#3. Lojay – Leader
Nigerian singer Lojay returns with yet another new single titled Leader for his teeming fans. It is his first solo release for the year. The new record is a fantastic body of work which is a follow-up to his remix track Monalisa with American singer Chris Brown. On Leader, Lojay sings over a synth-filled production about following a lady he admires, likening her to a leader.
#4. Zlatan – Jaboti
Highly-talented Nigerian street hop artist, Zlatan opens his music account for the year with this groovy song titled Jaboti. This song comes after months of pleas from fans for a new track. Jaboti is a carefully-crafted, drum-heavy song about never falling. The Timi Jay-produced song will definitely take over the streets for the rest of 2022.
#5. Yemi Alade ft. Spice – Bubble It
Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade has joined forces with Jamaican singer Spice to make another dancehall song titled Bubble it. Despite hailing from opposite sides of the world, the duo has created a jam transcendent of nationality, language, and genre. The up-tempo track is a merger of dancehall and afrobeat, offering a sublime fusion of Yemi’s sweet-like-sugar vocals and Spice’s fierce delivery.
