fter a climax and such a good time underneath the sheets, keeping a healthy vagina is definitely not what’s top on your mind as you gasp for air. But it should be. When sexually active, it’s expedient that you pay attention to having a healthy vagina. This is because, during sex, your body secrets a lot of fluids which if not managed properly could lead to issues long after the oohs and aahs.
While numerous products are on the toiletry aisle promising to keep the vagina squeaky clean, they could end up doing more harm than good. A healthy vagina is in the simple, consistent practices. Albeit, it’s important to note that the vagina cleanses itself, and using harsh chemicals offsets the pH levels of the vagina. Thus, making it susceptible to harmful microorganisms.
Learning to wash off/wipe properly after sex could help keep a healthy vagina and with that confidence, sex with your partner stays enjoyable. This is important because an unhealthy vagina can lead to infections and also low sexual urge and/or pain during intercourse.
Check out 5 ways to maintain a healthy vagina for an improved sex life…
#1. Drink a lot of water

After a good round of energetic sex, we are usually dehydrated. Therefore, drinking water after sex is important as it not only helps you relax while you catch your breath, it also increases the quantity of urine you’ll pass out after sex. The more the urine, the more bacteria get flushed out. A healthy vagina is the goal.
#2. Never resist the urge to pee

You know that tiny little pee drop that comes immediately after sex with your partner? That’s UTIs (Urinary Tract Infection) getting passed out. Studies have shown that urinating after sex helps prevent UTIs and keeps a healthy vagina.
#3. Wipe off properly after sex

After sex, some just go into the restroom to wipe off casually, but there’s a right way to do this, which is wiping from front to back. Wiping from the back to the front could cause bacteria from the anus to escape into the vagina. We don’t want that.
Also, if there’s semen present from unprotected sex, allow as much as possible to drain out before using a mild soap to wash off the external parts of the vagina. This helps to prevent bacteria from lurking. Don’t forget to wash your hands afterward.
#4. Keep your vagina dry

Here’s what to do after sex: after washing off in the bathroom, don’t just slide back into your panties with a moist vagina. There’s no better accommodation for unwanted microorganisms than this. They love the environment and would gladly live rent-free in your quarters. So, dry up properly with a clean towel or toilet paper (try to avoid leaving remnants of it on you) and then slip into your breathable underwear.
#5. Rock your birthday suit

If possible, after washing and drying up your vagina, let it breathe. The best way to do this is to stay naked for a while. By doing this every so often, you get to maintain a healthy vagina and also get more comfortable in your naked skin. Such an irresistible combination.
Remember: Every vagina has its natural scent and that’s really okay. Don’t fall for the need to keep your vagina smelling like a garden of roses and in that pursuit, you create an imbalance in your vagina’s pH levels As long as you keep your vagina clean, dry, and wear breathable fabrics, you’re good.
