ollowing successful premieres in London and New York, the highly anticipated movie, Water & Garri, by Everything Savage and Unbound Studios, arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, for a memorable premiere–a night of celebration and glamour. The event, which took place on Thursday, May 9, at the Livespot Entertainment Center, smoked out the brightest stars in Nigerian entertainment in befitting ensembles that added even more pump to the conversation.
The star-studded affair hosted pacesetters of the Nigerian entertainment industry, including Toke Makinwa, Osas Ighodaro, DJ Spinall, Reekado Banks, Eku Edewor, BB Sasore, Jade Osiberu, Do2tun, amongst others, who stepped out to celebrate the directorial debut of Meji Alabi and the feature film acting debut of award-winning singer Tiwa Savage. The premiere echoed the vibrant energy of the film’s setting, the East Side—bustling with energy and cultural richness.
Following its worldwide release on May 10, Water & Garri has gone on to rank No. 1 on the movie streaming platform Prime Video in Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon and has also claimed the Top 10 spot in South Africa, the UK, Qatar, Cyprus, Uganda, Ukraine, Tanzania, Rwanda, Togo, Zambia, and Benin Republic; demonstrating the power of authentic African storytelling and its ability to transcend borders.
Directed by Meji Alabi, the drama tells the story of Aisha (Savage), an ambitious fashion designer, as she returns to her native home after 10 years away in the U.S., following a family bereavement. At home, things have changed—violence has escalated, and tensions have been high. As she reconnects with family, old friends, and her past love, she must learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind.

The Looks
For such a grand occasion, outfits that turn heads are required, and Lagos didn’t disappoint. One of the most rave-worthy looks of the night was seen on Tiwa Savage herself who looked graceful in a Valdrin Sahiti number. The white off-the-shoulder dress held her waist in a warm embrace and flaunted a voluminous skirt with a beguiling train and a slit that upped its sexy factor.
Another look that was simply spectacular was spotted on media personality, Toke Makinwa. The “Baby Girl for Life” made a case for black and peach in a submission created by Weiz Dhurm Franklyn. The black, figure-accentuating, cut-out dress boasted spiral-detailed cones on its bust and was completed with a peach taffeta cape that spoke fluently in elegance.
Of course, the gents didn’t lag either. For the Water & Garri premiere in Lagos, fashion influencer Akin Faminu looked dapper in a polished black suit that boasted subtle prints on the blazer. Oh, but that was just half the fun. The blazer also received a baptism of embellishments that made it a true statement piece. He completed the look with black dress shoes and a matching hat.
Elsewhere, media personality Uti Nwachukwu went the casual route in a brown and beige chevron-printed shirt and beige pants that balanced the busyness of the shirt. He leveraged beige shoes and colored-lens sunglasses to tie the coordination together.
