Merging together some ’80s working girl vibes with the ’90s Matrix look was what Alexander Wang‘s Fall 2018 collection gunned for. The collection showed that the Wang woman is set to take over the boardroom — if not the entire world.
The Alexander Wang collection featured a lot of mini-dresses heavy on zips, an iteration of the skirt suit which involved a leather mini with a fur jacket, tweeds that came in hot pink, black and white with statement buttons or zippers, elaborate athleisure, with many other old-fashioned classics given a twist as well. Hosiery was key, with many of the models wearing black lace or sheer black stockings with the designer’s name running along the leg. The office attire was completed with black high heels, spiky studded gloves and some serious sunglasses. While probably not entirely appropriate for work, these working girls of 2018 meant business.
The hairstyles were the perfect match for the executive look – scraped back and up in a claw clip – another allusion to the ‘80s. This was working life taken seriously but in style. It was corporate chic at its best with the beauty look mirroring the ’80s and ’90s businesswoman aesthetic.
