ot that we’re alluding to the impending cooler season making its way to us, but other than cool, there really is no better word to describe the chilly sensation last week’s best beauty looks evoked. The calendar was bursting with enough reasons to show up, and boy did Black women deliver! From the South African Music Video Awards to MTV’s VMAs, the stars came, saw, and slayed, beautifully.
The Looks
Makeup
The VMAs’ beauty looks were giving and stirred good ol’ nostalgia in the process. Some celebs played the throwback card that we couldn’t help but reminisce of fond memories. Chief among them is certified Barbie, Nicki Minaj who brought her pink Barbie vibe from way back. Her outfit, hair, and makeup danced within the hue and the result has earned her a spot on this list. All that pinkness required a balancing factor, and the rapper’s beauty team accomplished that with a smokey eye paired with spider lashes. Talk about doll-up.
There’s no denying that Lizzo is cool and her appearance at the MTV Music Video awards simply reiterated this. The multiple-award-winning star played a fierce face card that definitely embodied the totality of who she is. That is a woman who isn’t afraid to blaze new trails emboldened by the determination to stand out. And stand out she did. While her look generally bordered around muted tones, some character was incorporated using a peacock blue lipstick accented by a gold-tone lip ring.
Hair
We will always be obsessed with women like Nandi Madida who are bold enough to go bald. Last week, the South African singer added some flair to her famous hairdo by studding it with clear crystals. Surely, her hair was all the sparkle our week needed.
