Vic Mensa is making an impact in Africa that will span far beyond this week. The Chicago rapper is set to co-headline a festival in Ghana this week and is also heading up an initiative to bring clean water to three villages in the West African nation. According to reports, Mensa was moved after seeing the stark conditions many live under, which include contaminated water, so he decided to partner with his father, a native of Ghana, to launch the project.
“We’re building three boreholes in different communities in Ghana to provide clean drinking water; the first being the Asokore Zongo in Koforidua where my family lives, which is already built,” Vic said. “The other locations are a nearby community called Effiduase and then our ancestral village in the Volta Region, Amedzofe,” he added. “Most people in communities like this in Ghana experience constant waterborne diseases.” Vic Mensa is scheduled to be joined by longtime friends Chance The Rapper and Erykah Badu on Saturday, January 7, for the Black Star Line Festival.

Nigerian Afrobeats veterans and megastars P-Square have announced that they intend to drop a new album in 2023. Peter Okoye aka Mr. P, made the revelation via his Twitter account, where he revealed it was a strategic decision for them not to release a new project in 2022 as they wished to tour and connect with their fans. He further revealed that they intend to release the first album of their second coming in 2023.
P-Square has been one of Africa’s most famous duos for close to two decades, with their music gaining massive followership across the world. The twin brothers parted ways in 2017 as they pursued solo careers, bringing an end to the award-winning partnership. In 2021, the brothers reconciled and returned as a duo, announcing themselves at the December 2021 reunion concert, in which they apologized to fans for splitting.
3. South Africa: Siya Kolisi speaks on his new venture
With all the traveling that comes with being a sportsman, many lose out on precious family time, but Siya Kolisi is feeling more positive about his next move. The Springboks captain will join French rugby union club Racing 92 after the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Taking to his social media timeline on Tuesday, the star spoke about how his career had limited quality time with his family, something that played a part in his decision to make the move.
“Rachel and the kids have sacrificed so much throughout my career and I am immeasurably grateful for this. The move to Racing 92 will enable me to spend more time with my family, which is something I have longed for, and this prospect played a significant part in my decision-making. This is an exciting time for my family and I and we’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
4. Netflix Naija releases trailer for next original series ‘Shanty Town’
Netflix has released the official trailer of its highly anticipated Nigerian crime thriller “Shanty Town.” The upcoming project, created by the duo of Xavier Ighorodje and Chichi Nworah, is a six-part series. The show follows the story of three Lagos State hustlers (played by Ini Edo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, and Nancy Isime) who unite to wage war against the biggest and most ruthless crime ring in the state.
Directed by Dimeji Ajibola and produced by Chichi Nworah, “Shanty Town” will debut globally, and exclusively on Netflix, on January 20, 2023.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is set to miss Barcelona’s next three games after a ban was finally upheld following an unsuccessful appeal. According to reports, the Spanish Tribunal Administrative of Sport (TAD) reviewed Barcelona’s appeal of their forward’s three-game suspension and decided to uphold the decision to ban him for that number of matches. The frontman was punished after picking up a second yellow card and subsequently making a gesture in his side’s La Liga contest against Osasuna on November 8. But Barcelona appealed the ban, and Lewandowski played against Espanyol last weekend.
Manager Xavi even said he expected Lewandowski to be available for Sunday’s game against Atletico Madrid, but the Pole will now have to watch from the stands. Lewandowski is a massive loss for Barcelona, and the team must now figure out how to line up without him. He’s scored 13 times in 15 La Liga appearances this season. Bizarrely, it is possible they could appeal the ban again, but it remains to be seen what the outcome would be.
