Versace’s Fall 2018 Collection Is Dedicated To ‘The Clans Of Versace’ At The Milan Fashion Week 2018

So far, the 2018 Fall collections from most designers have paid homage to the past and Versace’s Fall 2018 collection was no different. This time the ’80s glamour was being revered. Donatella Versace has always been a woman whose eyes are open to diversity and to her, the pieces presented meant “mystery, which is always glamorous.”

The Versace Fall 2018 collection was full of throwbacks with a play on classics — a slick trench coat, a schoolgirl shirt collar, beige tailoring, super-platformed brogues. From the power blazers and statement prints of the 1990s to the clashing colour palettes and gold embellishment so synonymous with this house – updated versions of which are all present in this collection.

Then there was a riff on trad-punk tartans, all chopped-about, with multilevel kilts topped off with the odd beret. Plaids were layered on top of each other in looks ranging from the casual, stitched up with denim, to the formal, billowed out in silk skirts paired with graphic tees. Silhouette-wise, what evolved were draped tulip-shaped miniskirts and bubbles, waists cinched in with broad leather Versace-logo buckle belts, and wide, wide shoulders. Where there were corsets, there were T-shirts crammed beneath them — a delightful take on bad-girl glam.

According to Donatella Versace,

“The Clans of Versace is an ode to women who know that today nothing is acquired through birth, but rather earned through what they achieve.”

The millennial set will flock toward Versace’s take on sporty and the sexy, fringed mini-dresses paired with animal print bodysuits. It’s all about the illusion of being covered up and dressed in layers when, in reality, everything is skintight — just the way Versace likes. Whether you pair it with vertiginous platforms or sporty sneakers is entirely up to you.
