1. Vanessa Bryant blasts Nike over ‘Mambacita’ shoe leak she never approved for sale
Vanessa Bryant has expressed her displeasure after seeing photos of a Gianna Bryant tribute sneaker surface online following her decision not to re-sign with Nike. The mother of four took to social media on Wednesday to react to a leaked photo of a shoe Vanessa herself helped design in honor of her late daughter, Gigi. The black and white sneaker features a “2” on the outsole, clearly created to mimic the 13-year-old’s jersey colors and number.
Vanessa Bryant said that she was confused about how this person ended up with a pair of the exclusive Nike shoes, as they shouldn’t be available in stores and never approved for sale.
Vanessa announced that Bryant’s estate had parted ways with Nike in an Instagram Story on April 19, revealing she and her husband’s estate did not renew the contract.
2. Nigeria: BBNaija Reunion show coming to screens this month
A new season of drama is coming to the screens, this time with Big Brother Naija season five housemates. Headlined by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the Lockdown housemates will be returning for the BBNaija Reunion show slated for June 17, 2021.
Confirming the new show, BBNaija organizers recently shared a teaser of what fans can expect from the reality stars.
3. South Africa: DJ Zinhle launches wig brand ‘Hair Majesty’
Businesswoman and award-winning music artiste Ntombezinhle Jiyane, best known as DJ Zinhle, has revealed her new wig range, ‘Hair Majesty,’ a line of premium Peruvian lace wigs and HD frontals.
The new line of wigs adds to the long list of entrepreneurial endeavors Jiyane has been a part of. This includes taking over as CEO of the international sparkling wine brand Boulevard Rosé, being the founder of Era by DJ Zinhle, an accessory, and eyewear brand, and co-owning a homeware and lounge brand in her name, Jiyane Atelier.
4. Ghana: Lack of a unique genre is a major setback for our music industry – Shatta Wale
Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has said that the failure of Ghanaians to own a particular genre of music is a major setback for the industry.
Addressing the nation on Wednesday, June 2, he said that during his business meetings in the US, investors kept pushing to know what kind of music Ghanaians make even though he appeared before them as a Dancehall act.
The “My Level” hitmaker urged industry stakeholders in Ghana to work together to help identify that one genre of music Ghanaians can claim as theirs. Shatta Wale explained that Ghana, through the Tourism Ministry and other sectors in the entertainment industry, can push the music agenda to put Ghana in the global spotlight.
5. Trent Alexander-Arnold: England right-back ruled out of Euro 2020
England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Euro 2020 with a thigh injury. The Liverpool right-back hurt himself in the closing stages of Wednesday’s friendly against Austria, and a scan revealed he has suffered a quad tear. The 22-year-old is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks and will return to his club for rehabilitation.
Manager Gareth Southgate will not name a replacement until after Sunday’s final warm-up game with Romania. However, Alexander-Arnold’s inclusion as one of four right-backs was one of the main talking points when Southgate named his squad last week. The Liverpool player missed the previous seven internationals.
England’s first game at Euro 2020 is against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia at Wembley on Sunday, 13 June.
