The ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 30, and is sure to be a night of celebration for the beloved entertainer.

Usher’s impact on the music industry is undeniable. He’s achieved international fame with countless hits like “My Boo,” “Confessions Part II,” and “Yeah!” His smooth vocals and energetic stage presence have captivated audiences for over two decades.

This isn’t the only time Usher will be in the spotlight at the upcoming BET Awards. He is also a four-time nominee for the 2024 ceremony, solidifying his status as a continuing force in the music world. With the Lifetime Achievement Award, BET acknowledges Usher’s lasting legacy and his inspiration to generations of musicians and fans.

2. Davido partners with Phantom and Solana to launch meme coin

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido is making waves in the cryptocurrency world with the launch of his own meme coin, $Davido. Announced on May 29, the coin quickly gained popularity, reaching number one on a DEX screening platform. To bring his vision to life, the star collaborated with prominent blockchain players Phantom and Solana. This partnership leverages the user-friendly wallet experience of Phantom and the scalability of the Solana blockchain.

While the initial price of $Davido was reported to be around $0.007783 USD, its future trajectory remains to be seen. The cryptocurrency market is famously volatile, and meme coins, known for their association with internet jokes and trends, can be particularly unpredictable. Despite the uncertainty, Davido’s fanbase and crypto enthusiasts are keeping a close eye on the $Davido coin. The singer himself seems enthusiastic, taking to social media to celebrate the launch.

3. Nicki Minaj announces second leg of “Pink Friday 2 World Tour”

Nicki Minaj isn’t done dominating the stage just yet. Due to popular demand, the rapper has announced a second leg of her record-breaking “Pink Friday 2 World Tour.” This newly added North American leg brings 22 extra dates for fans who missed out the first time around.

The tour, already lauded as the highest-grossing rap tour by a woman, will see Minaj hit major cities like Los Angeles, Miami, and St. Louis. It also includes return visits to fan favorites like Dallas, Las Vegas, and Washington, D.C. The grand finale will be a homecoming show in Minaj’s hometown of Queens, New York, marking the end of over 80 global performances.

This news comes after the first leg of the tour witnessed incredible success, with sell-out shows at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Boston’s TD Garden. Tickets for the second leg go on sale this Friday, May 31.

4. Omah Lay & Fireboy announce first-ever collaboration

Nigerian music superstars Omah Lay and Fireboy DML are joining forces for their first-ever song together, sending shockwaves through the Afrobeats scene. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this moment since hints emerged earlier this year. Fireboy sparked speculation with a cryptic social media post saying, “It’s pretty messed up,” in which he tagged Omah Lay on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Omah Lay replied saying “This world is a messed up place bro.” Now the news is confirmed, with producer Lekaa Beat also revealing his involvement in the project.

Both Omah Lay and Fireboy are major forces in Afrobeats. They’ve achieved individual commercial success, critical acclaim for their albums, and even won the prestigious Headies Next Rated award, solidifying their status as the future of Nigerian music. This collaboration is a dream come true for fans who have long admired their individual styles.

5. Red Bull takes minority ownership stake in Leeds

Energy drink giant Red Bull has made a major move into English football, acquiring a minority ownership stake in second-tier club Leeds United. The deal, announced on Thursday, also sees Red Bull become the club’s new shirt sponsor. This marks Red Bull’s first foray into England’s professional leagues, adding Leeds to their existing portfolio of clubs around the world, including RB Leipzig in Germany, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, and the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. While financial details of the ownership stake weren’t disclosed, Leeds emphasized the benefits of the deal.

“The addition of Red Bull is a historic milestone that will further empower the club to reach its full competitive potential,” said Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe in a statement. “[This brings] new commercial revenues as well as additional capital investment” to aid the club’s push for promotion back to the Premier League. Unlike some of their other clubs, however, Leeds fans can rest assured that their traditions are safe. The club confirmed that their name and badge will remain unchanged. Red Bull’s logo will appear on the front of both the men’s and women’s Leeds United kits starting next season.
