Truth be told before Ebuka Obi-Uchendu wore the famous Agbada, I barely knew who Ugo Monye was. Yet the designer has been consistent with his super elegant traditional attires. Ugo Monye is definitely an architectural genius in fabric form as he has mastered the art of creating fabric cocktails that are certainly a sight for sore eyes.
On Day 2 of the just concluded Heineken Lagos Fashion Week, the designer tapped Big Brother Naija’s Tobi Bakre and Ayoola Ayobami among other models, to walk his show in regal pieces. Bringing drama to the runway, the show featured drummers dressed up in animal skin to usher in the collection as they played a remix of one of the soundtracks of Black Panther.
Keeping with the simple and classy aesthetics the brand has become well known for, the collection which features velvet, floral and other embellishments, is super detailed and meant for the contemporary, fashion-forward man looking to make a subtle yet powerful style statement.
