How do you have a “dialogue between perfection and imperfection, permanence and caducity?” Well, Italian fashion house, Valentino did just that in Tokyo with its Pre-fall 2019 collection which happens to be the brand’s first since the 1980s.
Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, unveiled the collection which was inspired by ‘wabi-sabi’ – a Japanese aesthetic centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Pierpaolo embraced imperfections throughout the collection, highlighting asymmetrical silhouettes.
Also, for the first time, the house sent male and female models down the runway at once. It was truly a season of firsts! The collection features tulle gowns, reimagined Valentino floral prints crushed into red and black silk dye, asymmetrical silhouettes, ruffles, lace, pleated silk and chiffons.
The collection which opened with a monochrome red design and also closed off with red outfits had Kaia Gerber and Adut Akech close the show.
