The stars came out to Hollywood Monday night, May 8, for the world premiere of Disney’s live-action hybrid take on its classic film, The Little Mermaid. Cast and crew shimmered brightly as they made their way across the red carpet – which was actually blue in honor of the highly anticipated movie. The screening occurred at the iconic Dolby Theater, where the film’s cast, including its leading star Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Noma Dumezweni and Art Malik, were joined by director and producer Rob Marshall, screenwriter David Magee, and many more.
The premiere also drew out several celebrity guests, including the original Little Mermaid voice actress Jodie Benson, Bailey’s sister and Grammy-nominated singer Chlöe Bailey, rapper Offset and his adorable daughters Kulture and Kalea, comedian Yvette Nicole Brown, Disney’s first Black animated princess Anika Noni Rose, and other notable Disney stars including Kyla Pratt, Tia Mowry, and Tamera Mowery-Housley. The film debuts exclusively in theaters nationwide on May 26.
2. Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ sets new Billboard Hot 100 African record with top 5 entry

Nigerian superstar Rema has achieved a landmark feat as he enters the top 5 of Billboard Hot 100. In the latest issue of Billboard Hot 100, Rema’s “Calm Down” moves up one spot to No. 5 as it extends his record as the highest charting African song in the history of the famous chart. With his No. 6 entry, the single broke the record for the highest-charting African song set by Wizkid with “Essence” feat Tems & Justin Bieber. And with a historic top 5 entry, he has now broken his record while setting a new one in its stead.
The Nigerian superstar is currently in India for the continuation of his “Raves & Roses” tour. With the giant strides he has recorded, he has established himself as a superstar set to take Afrobeats to a whole new level and fans would be excited to see how he continues to soar.
3. South Africa: Kelly Khumalo shares first snap with her newborn
Kelly Khumalo has finally confirmed the arrival of her third child. This after reports revealed the singer gave birth to a baby girl through C-section in April. Taking to her Instagram account on Sunday, Kelly shared images of herself holding a car seat with her baby in it, and another as she strapped the newborn in. “What’s good?” she captioned the post.
The mother of three concealed her baby’s face and has not revealed the name either. Kelly’s Instagram post has been flooded with congratulatory messages from fans, friends, and industry colleagues.
4. Drake asks if he’s ‘Finally’ Nigerian after learning dad’s ancestry

After years of wondering, Grammy Award-winning rapper Drake has finally learned about his connection to the Nigerian community. Over the weekend, the “Rich Flex” rapper took to Instagram to share a screenshot of his dad, Dennis Graham’s ancestry report, which revealed that 30 percent of his ethnic makeup is derived from Nigeria. “This is my dad’s results,” Drake captioned in the post. “Does this mean I’m a Naija man finally?”
The Canada-born rapper shared that his father was also 28 percent Cameroonian and Congolese and had roots in several other places, including Ivory Coast, Ghana, England, Northwestern Europe, Scotland, and more. Many social media users have reacted to the announcement, with some writing, “Drake’s Afrobeats album incoming.”
5. Manuel Neuer returns to Bayern Munich training six months after breaking leg on post-World Cup skiing holiday

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has returned to Bayern Munich training for the first time since picking up a leg injury in a skiing accident late last year. Star goalkeeper and team captain, who has been out of action since December 2022, has resumed training with the first team.
The 37-year-old Bayern and Germany captain was ruled out of the 2022/23 season when he broke his leg during a holiday. However, the Bayern legend finally made a return to training, six months after the accident. The custodian took part in a light session with goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner and rehabilitation expert Thomas Wilhelmi.
