In 2019, African contemporary fashion hit a new high and this was palpable during fashion weeks in Lagos, on red carpet events in Johannesburg and even on the intercontinental streets of Instagram. 

It’s safe to say that fashion now plays a bigger role in the representation of our cultures than say the business of gossip and you can thank brands like ours – yes, Style Rave – for the change in focus towards conversations that are more constructive and progressive for our entertainment industries. This is one of the key reasons we’ve dedicated our brand to helping rebrand African entertainment industries and Africa at large. 

As a new decade beacons, we look back with pride at how far the different African film and music industries – from Nigeria to South Africa, Ghana to Ugandan and everywhere in between – have come. We remain committed to continuing to shine a positive light on our continent as we represent our talents in ways that command respect and admiration for African arts and entertainment globally.

Our latest Rave List celebrates the best dressed African stars who gave us fashion goals all through 2019. These celebrities were consistently on top of the fashion chain when it came to delivering styles that were undeniably smart and elegant.

You see, it is normal to see stars shine on the red carpet but the ones on this list also illuminated the streets with top-notch casual style takes this year. They pushed boundaries and consistently made style statements at every given opportunity. 


For many of these women, which include actresses, singers and TV personalities, we were most impressed by the authenticity of their style as they used tools of fashion to express who they are while inspiring the rest of us to also look our best.

The unique approach to style by each of the women on this list was also by itself very inspiring. From Ghanaian actress Nana Akua Addo, who stayed in the habit of serving avant garde looks to Nigeria’s Toke Makinwa whose luxurious wardrobe was enviable yet admirable as she remained consistent with using her style to elevate her brand. The women on our 2019 All-Africa Rave List all understand the power of style and are using same to build their personal brands.

20. Hamisa Mobetto

A look at Hamisa Mobetto’s Instagram page will prove that the Tanzanian model and fashionista gets her style right whenever she steps out. The stylish mum of two never hesitates to show off her curves and we can’t be mad about that.

Ugandan socialite, businesswoman and mother of five, Zari Hassan sure holds her weight in the game of fashion. One thing is for sure, Zari has mastered the art of wearing what flatters her body irrespective of the occasion.

This TV girl known as the face of everything young, fresh and modern in Uganda was consistent with her style delivery in 2019. The socialite, actress and model Betty Nassali, better known as Bettinah Tianah is one that favours clean cuts, sexy aesthetics and bodycon dresses.

Ghanaian actress and TV personality, Selorm Galley-Fiawoo popularly known as Selly Galley, is one African star that steadily brought the heat with her style this year. Besides being bold and edgy, Selly is super confident in her style and that’s what makes her a true Style Raven.

Tanzania’s award-winning actress, Elizabeth Michael served hot style sauce in 2019. From her casual looks to traditional and even red carpet looks, Elizabeth served so many stylish moments that we loved.

South African model and TV personality, Keitumetse Naomi Noinyane also known as K Naomi gave us unique fashion takes which were always finished off with a flawless face beat. Her style was a mix of daring, elegant and sexy!

Being confident with her curves and knowing how to dress right was one of the superpowers we found Ghanaian actress and host, Joselyn Dumas, to have possessed. She has always been sophisticated and gracious and this year she delivered jaw-dropping form-fitting outfits that left many in a daze.

South African media personality Lerato Kganyago consistently brought her A-game when it came down to her style. Lerato’s style is always sophisticated and seemingly effortless and we couln’t help but fall in love with many of her looks.

In 2019, Nollywood actress Linda Adesuwa Osifo, not only served looks that hugged her fab figure, but also served eclectic and slightly edgy looks. Her love for African print was consistently evident on her Instagram page and the Ankara faithfuls couldn’t be more grateful.

Nollywood actress Ini Edo proved once again that she is owning every bit of her style. Ini consistently served intentional glam in 2019 and we can’t wait to see how she’ll return to the ring in 2020.

Many of her looks had us screaming #stylegoals and she’s definitely earned the top spot on our 2019 All-Africa Stars Rave List.
