1. Tems’ Free Mind receives RIAA Gold certification

Nigerian singer and songwriter Tems is set to receive an RIAA gold certification for her single Free Mind. As reported by chart news platform @chartdata on Wednesday, October 26, via their Twitter account, the track is eligible for a Gold Certification as it has sold 500,000 copies in the United States. The certification will be Tems’ first solo certification after getting platinum plaques for Wizkid’s “Essence” and Future’s “Wait For U.”

Free Mind, released in 2020 as one of the singles on Tems’ “If Orange was a Place” EP, has performed impressively in the United States and has spent 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at Number 46. Tems joins CKay, Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid as Afrobeats artists with solo RIAA certifications.

2. Drake & 21 Savage delay ‘Her Loss’ joint album release

On Wednesday night, October 26, Drake took to his Instagram Story to announce that his joint album with 21 Savage, “Her Loss,” will now arrive next week instead of this Friday as planned. The rapper revealed that his go-to producer, Noah “40” Shebib got COVID, so the mixing and mastering of the album have been delayed.

“Our brother @ovo40 got Covid while mixing and mastering the crack so he’s resting up,” Drake’s message revealed. “NOVEMBER 4th is HER LOSS day we’ll see you soon.” The multiple-award-winning star wrapped the note with a devil and a rose emoji. 21 Savage shared the same message on his Instagram Story. OVO Sound also shared the news, tweeting the new 11/4 release date for Her Loss along with the Friday release of DVSN’s “Working On My Karma.”

AKA is set to launch a line of CBD oils and vape products. The rapper took to his timeline on Wednesday, announcing the new venture in partnership with Canna Trade Africa and The Green Side Farmacy. In the post, AKA said he wanted to make available safe alternative options for mental and physical well-being.

“This collaboration is about bringing together culture and community in a safe and legitimate space for all to have access to more options and alternatives with regards to their mental and physical wellbeing. I look forward to this venture with a lot of excitement,” AKA said in a statement shared in the post. The rapper got his medicinal marijuana prescription card in March this year.

4. Water rationing starts in Tanzania’s main city

The authorities in Tanzania on Thursday began rationing water in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam because of a drop in the River Ruvu’s levels — it is dangerously low, leaving the city with a deficit of nearly 166 million liters of water a day.

People in Dar es Salaam will be without piped water for 24 hours on alternate days until the water levels improve. Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Amos Makalla said the water rationing was a result of a prolonged dry spell.

5. Liverpool boss Klopp receives hefty fine for red card in Man City clash

Jurgen Klopp has learned the punishment for his red card against Manchester City and he will be relieved to have avoided a touchline ban. The pressure of yet another gripping clash between Liverpool and Manchester City was felt by everyone inside Anfield, none more so than Klopp. His remonstrations towards the match officials—one of the assistant referees in particular—earned him a red card and, after an investigation, the FA confirmed his punishment.

In the official statement, the spokesperson for English football’s governing body said: “Jurgen Klopp has been fined £30,000 for breaching FA Rule E3 during Liverpool FC’s Premier League match against Manchester City FC on Sunday 16 October 2022. The manager accepted that his behavior during the 86th minute was improper, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed his sanction during a hearing. This sanction is subject to appeal by either Jurgen Klopp or The FA following receipt of the Independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons.”

The avoidance of a touchline ban means that the German will be allowed to coach his side at the weekend as they welcome Leeds to Anfield in Saturday’s late kick-off. Given the last result in the league — the defeat at Nottingham Forest — it might not be as easy an assignment as many Liverpool supporters expect.
