On Monday, June 7, 2021, it was announced that Nigerian singer, Tems was nominated in the Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Act category at the 2021 BET Awards. She was nominated alongside South African R&B singer Elaine, British acts Arlo Parks, and Bree Runway, both rappers and singers.
For Tems, this BET Awards nomination comes after a stellar year where “Essence,” her collaboration with Wizkid, has made the rounds across the world. She also dropped her debut EP, “For Broken Ears,” and got a next-rated nomination at the 2021 Headies.
Congratulations to Tems.
2. Megan Thee Stallion teases her comeback single
Megan Thee Stallion has been on a break, but it looks like she’s coming back just in time for the return of Hot Girl Summer. After posting a tweet proclaiming her alter ego “Tina Snow is back” yesterday, the Houston Hottie followed up today with the pre-save link to her first post-Good News single, “Thot Sh*t,” which arrives this Friday, June 11.
Meg spent the last two months on a social media hiatus, calling it a “period of regeneration”. It seems that she used the time off to recalibrate.
3. South Africa: AKA returns to social media
Rapper AKA has returned to social media. This comes after the star took a break from all his social media platforms following the tragic death of his fiancée, Anele “Nellie” Tembe. Anele died in April after an incident at the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town, where she fell from the 10th floor. Following Anele’s death, AKA released a statement in which he said he would be taking a break from social media.
However, this past weekend the star took to Instagram to post new pictures and videos. Last month AKA sat with broadcaster Thembekile Mrototo in his home in Johannesburg, where he discussed his “tumultuous“ relationship with Anele and the events leading up to her tragic death.
4. Marijuana farming to be permitted in Ghana

Ghana has initiated processes to permit the farming or cultivation of marijuana (weed) under license. In 2020, some countries in Africa, through their national legislations, decided to permit the cultivation and export of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes, with some other countries authorizing the use of cannabis for medical purposes.
Having passed the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), Ghana joined these African countries in exploring the purported prospects of cannabis. The Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), passed by Parliament on March 20, 2020, and assented to by the President on May 11, 2020, have enshrined special provisions relating to cannabis.
5. Simone Biles wins her seventh U.S. gymnastics title
Simone Biles completed a historic weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, with ease on Sunday night — and looks more than ready for Tokyo. Biles won her seventh all-around U.S. Gymnastics Championships title on Sunday with an overall score of 119.950, which gives her the most wins at the event by any woman in American history.
Biles surpassed Clara Schroth Lomady’s previous record of six titles with her win. She’s now tied with Alfred Jochim for the most by any American, man or woman. She has won every 5 titles since she first entered back in 2013. She beat runner-up Sunisa Lee by nearly five full points. Jordan Chiles came in third, just 0.500 points back from Lee. Emma Malabuyo and Leanne Wong rounded out the top five.
