ooking good is a goodwill gesture all of mankind should take into consideration, and like Tom Ford once said, ”Dressing well is a form of good manners.” Paying attention to Nigerian fashionistas, it is clear that these style stars understand this code of dressing. From flamboyant regalia shining through in bright sparkles to insta-worthy ensembles with vamped-up aesthetics, to primed silhouettes embodying diverse cuts and textures, the Lagos fashion scene is always one to watch. And if you ever encounter a style block, know that these Naija streets are bursting with creative fashion inspiration to pull you out from sartorial inertia.

Check out the top looks seen on stylish Nigerian ladies…

#1. Cut it out

An all-white look in summer will always be a handy catch. All season long, style stars continue to lean towards minimal monochromatic aesthetics. Clean white fits with detailed cutouts married with quiet and refined accessories is a style formula you can bet on. Big Brother Naija star Bella Okagbue is one fashion darling who knows how to spin this timeless coordination, and she did so in a take by Catwalk Connection. Definitely, one to get behind regardless of the season.

#2. Glistening is a habit

Nigerian fashionista Chioma Ikokwu might as well be renamed a magpie in due season. The star knows how to ride on the embellishments trend wave. If you’re seeking a rejuvenating infusion of fun, go unapologetically bling. You can test the waters with shimmering shoes or handbags, and then draw the courage to pull off a full-on Matopedá disco vibe like this style star.

#3. Bursts of comfort

As a tourist, comfort is a highly coveted state of mind. Queue in a perfect outfit that enables easy movement. TV host Nancy Isime took a trip to Lebanon, and as we all know, sharing JPEGs is an integral part of a vacation. She skipped the stress of an overly-put-together outfit by rocking this colorful bird print pant set. The lush fabric, vibrant prints, and breezy silhouette are the perfect outfit components for a day out exploring the city.

#4. An organized deconstruction

At first, when the deconstructed style trend hit the fashion scenes, the distorted mergers were almost dizzy to look at. And I was guilty of thinking this trend would never survive mainstream. I was wrong. This seemingly experimental fabric-cutting style has continued to take different patterns and contours. So much so, they’re a delight to behold. Journalist Lola Ogunnaike further reinforced the interesting hold of this trend in a lovely Fruché asymmetric hem number. From the delightfulness of the African prints to the various intelligent twists that this look continued to give, it’s a perfect way to denote African contemporary fashion.

#5. Dolled up

Barbie has less than 24 hours to respond to this cute Diane Russet look by Nigerian designer Ann Usman. Obviously inspired by Schiaparelli’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection. Top model Adut Akech was spotted in a similar dress from the collection, strutting the runway with a heavy dose of melanin confidence – something these two Queens share in common. In case you ever forget, a little sleeveless tiered mini dress with tulle details will always remind you of your baddie status.

#6. Goddess energy

Muted tones and golden jewelry on melanin skin are on another level of gorgeous. Nollywood actress Ini Dima Okojie celebrated her birthday dolled up in a Derin Fabikun brown cut-out dress and a non-declining face card. When in doubt, a well-coordinated gold and brown combo has you covered.

#7. Structured skirts

Recently, there has been a preference for midi skirts in the fashion scenes. Rather than a basic skirt running the risk of being bleh, always opt for one with extra oomph. Thanks to metallic accents and fringe embellishments, fashion designer Yutee Rone has her skirt game duly sorted.
