At Style Rave, we’re committed to highlighting the accomplishments and advancements of Nigerians and Africans both at home and abroad. Today, we spotlight Atlanta, USA-based Dr Isi Idemudia, a Certified Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solutions Architect with Accenture-AWS Business Group (AABG) where she helps companies across North America design and deploy cutting-edge applications on AWS Cloud.

At AABG, Idemudia leads the community engagement aspect of the AWS Women in Cloud Initiative, which is focused on educating women and young girls on the use of AWS to increase the number of women within the Cloud Space.

As part of the AWS Women in Cloud initiative, on July 18th 2019, Isi Idemudia hosted over 80 girls at the Accenture Innovation Hub for an AWS exclusive showcase.

The Innovation Hub is situated at the prestigious Tech Square in mid-town Atlanta. Inside the hub, railroad tracks decorate the ceiling of the elevator lobby, paying homage to Atlanta’s history as a railroad hub. The elevator lobby leads to the reception area with steel-clad walls and a flip-disk display that changes constantly. The Hub’s Rumble Park is a dedicated space for design thinking sessions with living walls on either end, writable surfaces, reconfigurable walls and LED cloud-shaped lighting.

As a woman of colour, Isi Idemudia is passionate about giving back to young girls of colour to help increase the number of women who look like her in the Cloud Space. Through her relationship with Rep. Kim Scofield, the State Representative for Georgia District 60, Idemudia partnered with Black Girls Code to train and expose these girls, ages 11-13, on the use of AWS Cloud.

The enthusiastic girls were introduced to the world of Amazon Web Service (AWS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as Ideumdia taught a new game (CodeCombat) that embeds Amazon DynamoDB. In this game, Amazon DynamoDB allows students to build code that records and displays their game scores. This gamified learning tool took the students through an adventure, while actually teaching them how to code in python!

The girls also participated in a Design Thinking Session, took a tour of the Innovation Hub, and interacted with live demos. During the tour, the Girls experienced the clean and dirty makers labs for rapid creation of MVP prototypes, an immersion room with a 360-degree video projection on the walls and connected to the lounge and ideation room amongst other tech wonders.

Isi Idemudia is a Certified Solutions Architect with in-depth and practical knowledge of cloud architecture including hybrid frameworks for highly available solutions and fault tolerant data warehouses. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Innovation and Technology Management from the University of Pretoria/Port Harcourt and a Diploma in Innovation and Strategy from Harvard University.
