Talented Saudi Arabian designer, Mohammed Mahmoud Ashi of Ashi Studio recently released his Fall/Winter 2018-2019 haute couture collection based on a story that was built around an imaginary woman and her cravings for adventures. She is a strong and fierce woman of immense bravery and a splendour of magnificence who is willing “to venture into the unknown to quench her curiosity”.
The collection features a mélange of designs that serve as a protective wardrobe for her as she is cocooned in voluminous coats with large collars that could be pulled up, or with sleeves inspired by military uniforms or capes with elongated sleeves while dressing her in trousers under long romantic skirts.
As usual, Mohammed Ashi stayed true to his brand aesthetics of creating designs with volumes. He is adept at moulding large ruffles like a sculpture or making use of elaborate plissé and ennobled raffia in long fringes around the collar, cuffs or hem of the jacket. He also went further to embroider tiny flowers on the plissé.
The Ashi Studio collection also used delicate fabrics like moiré taffeta while sticking to neutral colours of ivory, taupe and black with an introduction of midnight blue for the first time. The sleeves on one of the coats had reverse tulip shapes while others had intricate detailing that left the collection feeling less ornate while remaining uber-luxurious.
