Nigerian-British rapper Skepta has announced the release date for his directorial debut. Skepta’s movie, “Tribal Mark,” is set to premiere on January 26 at Everyman Cinema. Produced by Skepta’s production company, 1PLUS1, in collaboration with Dwight Okechukwu, the film portrays the poignant journey of a Nigerian immigrant adapting to life in a foreign country.

Additionally, the storyline delves into the realm of an undercover Black Secret Service. The cast includes a diverse group of emerging Black actors, with Jude Carmichael taking on the role of the film’s protagonist, Young Mark. In addition to his directorial debut, the rapper has also announced his musical comeback with his first single titled “Gas Me Up,” which will also be released on the same day as the “Tribal Mark” movie. Gas Me Up is from his upcoming studio album “Knife and Fork.”

2. Odumodublvck teases new collab with Davido

Odumodublvck has teased a new collaboration with Davido. The duo shared the new sound snippet via their social media to the delight of fans. The song, titled “Industry Machine,” doesn’t have a release date as of now. Big Kala, as he is popularly called, has been collaborating with huge African artists, proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian music industry.

Odumodublvck achieved a groundbreaking accomplishment as his most recent album, “Eziokwu,” maintained the top spot on Spotify Nigeria for 11 consecutive weeks, setting new records. 

3. Global stars’ video supporting South Africa’s case against Israel attracts millions of views

Art met activism as millions watched renowned global actors read parts of South Africa’s application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel for the Gaza war. The artists are trying to spread awareness of the landmark case requesting a ceasefire in the prolonged war that has claimed thousands of civilian lives. South Africa applied to the World Court requesting an order for the suspension of military operations in Gaza, arguing Israel committed genocide against Palestinian people after the attacks by Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023.

Actors such as Charles Dance, Lena Headey, Cynthia Nixon, Khalid Abdalla, Steve Coogan, Tunde Adebimpe, Maisie Richardson-Seller, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Adam Bakri, Kathleen Chalfant, Steve Coogan, Liam Cunningham, Stephen Dillane, and many others stepped out of their artistry arena to put a spotlight on the historic case. The video compilation was published by the Palestine Festival of Literature and gained global traction; millions of people watched it on social media.

4. Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ reportedly sells one million units

On Sunday, January 14, Chart Data reported that Nicki Minaj’s fifth studio LP, “Pink Friday 2,” has sold over one million album-equivalent units in the United States. Said account added that all other albums by the Young Money star have accomplished the same achievement. Shortly after, Minaj took to Instagram to express her appreciation to fans and collaborators while sharing a screenshot of Chart Data’s claim.

“Thank you to every single one of you listening [and] supporting this album, the best label Republic Records, the GREATEST artists in the WORLD of our generation featured when I needed them the most,” Minaj wrote before continuing, “Every INCREDIBLE [AND] GENIUS producer, everyone who had ANYTHING to do with the music, every radio station, PD, DJ, interviewer, post, reaction video, VOGUE, Papa Bear, Zoo, PATTY DUKE, JUICE and the greatest fan base of all time, the Barbz.” She then acknowledged her faith in God before referencing her upcoming tour.

5. Trent Alexander-Arnold jets in Milan for Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 Men’s Show

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was spotted at the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 Men’s Show in Milan. The English full-back, who is currently out of action with a knee injury, was photographed in Milan on Saturday, attending the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 Men’s Show. The Reds star was spotted in all-black attire as he sported a leather jacket coupled with a pair of flares and a tie.

Alexander-Arnold injured his knee during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup last Sunday. After the match, he underwent scans, which revealed that he had a minor tear in the lateral ligament. Jurgen Klopp’s assistant, Pep Lijnders, later confirmed that the player had been ruled out of action for at least three weeks.
