The Self-Portrait fashion brand was made for the contemporary woman. For the creative director, Han Chong, delivering trendy pieces that can remain in the trend pool for seasons to come, pieces that transcend the proverbial fashion seasons was a price he wanted to pay.
Somehow the fashion brand has been able to deliver pricey yet affordable pieces with a sophistication that can be seen in its sharp tailoring and detailing. As seen at NYFW, the Self-Portrait Fall/winter 2019-2020 RTW collection once again hit that mark.
Having it’s 350 points of sale worldwide, the latest collection re-interprets the sophistication, feminine, elegant and sensual vibe the brand is known for.
The collection features black and white silhouettes which were characterised by embellished seams, exaggerated and volumized sleeves during the first half of the show. The second half, however, had a lot more colour and spin. There were whimsical stripes and beautiful plaid dresses. This level of aesthetics is to be expected from Han Chong. There were also long-sleeve dresses, ankle-length slits, tailored suits that were interpreted in a sensual and feminine way.
Elegant jumpsuits with pleat detailing at the bottom, tuxedo jackets that were converted to dresses and dresses adorned with sequins danced down the runway.
The collection was really diverse and when asked, Han Chong said:
“This season I do a lot of reinvents and tailoring, like how we do tailoring in a Self-Portrait way. So it always has a twist so it’s younger so you want to have fun.”
