1. JAY-Z and Rihanna make Forbes’ billionaires list

Music superstars Rihanna and Jay-Z are among the richest people in the world, according to Forbes. The outlet released its 2023 list of the planet’s wealthiest people, which includes 2,640 billionaires. Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter is the 1217th wealthiest man with a $2.5 billion net worth. The 53-year-old mogul, who was declared hip-hop’s first billionaire in 2019, added to his billion-dollar fortune with the recent sale of D’USSÉ. Hov, in good company, tied with Oprah Winfrey for the spot.

Rihanna comes in at No. 2020 with a $1.4 billion fortune. The 35-year-old businesswoman has amassed an empire with her Fenty Beauty line, which launched in 2017, and her lingerie company, Savage x Fenty. After a tumultuous year, Kanye West falls off the list. Ye was stripped of his billionaire status after Adidas terminated its partnership with him in the wake of his anti-Semitic comments.

2. Tems, Ayra Starr, others make Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 list

Forbes Africa has published its annual 30 Under 30 list, which honors outstanding young businesspeople, innovators, and leaders who are under 30. Entitled “The Newest Self-Made Young Innovators and Leaders Scripting a New Vision for Africa,” this year’s list spotlights the outstanding accomplishments of 30 “multi-tasking multi-hyphenate entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders” who are driving Africa’s progress on their own terms. This year’s list features Tems, Ayra Starr, Asisat Oshoala, Blessing Joel Abeng, and Khloe ‘Koko’ Abiri.

The finalists were chosen from a group of more than 1,000 candidates, selected by a team that comprised prior Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 alumni, an editorial team led by Under 30 curator Chanel Retief, as well as a group of impartial external assessors and subject-matter experts.

4. Rema performs ‘Holiday’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Nigerian international sensation Rema has performed his hit singles “Holiday” and “Calm Down” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Rema is one of the talents taking Afrobeats to a larger international audience as his global smash hit, “Calm Down” has become one of the biggest Afrobeats cross-over songs in history. The award-winning sensation has been on an ascension this 2023. Recently, he joined Burna Boy and Tems as the headliners for the Afrobeats-themed NBA All-star game. With his performance at The Tonight Show, Rema joins Asake as artistes who have performed at the prime-time show this year.

5. Lampard returns to Chelsea as interim manager following Graham Potter’s sacking

Frank Lampard has made a stunning return to Chelsea, as the club have announced his interim appointment following Graham Potter’s sacking. The 44-year-old, who spent 13 years in west London as a player, has answered an SOS call from his former employers after seeing them forced back into the market for a new manager. Potter was relieved of his duties after just 31 games at the helm and no permanent successor has been appointed before the end of the 2022-23 campaign — despite strong links to the likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann.

That has given Lampard an opportunity to take the reins again some two years after he was given his own marching orders by the Blues. The ex-England international left a prominent Premier League post in January 2021 after collecting 44 victories from 84 games at the helm and was also given the boot by Everton in January of this year after 12 months at Goodison Park.
