A fashion and pop culture writer who watches a lot…
Two weeks into the new year, right off the heels of the holidays, the music industry still seems to be taking its time in releasing music. However, there have been a number of artistes who have been keeping our ears busy. This week, we’ve been blessed with music not just by Nigerian singers but also singers from other West African countries. Kicking off the list is lover boy Ric Hassani who begins his year with a love song titled My Only Baby.
Malian singer Aya Nakamura, who has been getting international recognition in recent years, has also released her first single of the year, titled Baby. Other artists put out groovy songs to hold us down while the music industry prepares for a full return. We’ve curated the top five trending tunes for your listening pleasure.
Check out the top 5 trending new Afrobeats songs released this week…
#1. Ric Hassani – My Only Baby
Ric Hassani might just be making double-releasing a thing as he drops My Only Baby. If this song sounds familiar, it’s because it was first released in 2021 on his album The Prince I Became. The artiste has re-released it as a new and improved (newly mixed and mastered with better production) single accompanied by a colorful video to push it further.
#2. Aya Nakamura – Baby
French-Malian music sensation Aya Nakamura kicks off 2023 in fiery style with her new single Baby. Fresh from selling out three consecutive dates at Accor Arena in Paris, the chart-topping performer also released the colorful video for the track. Both Baby and its accompanying visuals arrive in tandem with confirmation that Nakamura’s hotly anticipated new album DNK will be dropping on January 27. And with the landing of her latest anthem, it looks like her reign shows no signs of letting up.
#3. Anonymous Music ft. Mohbad – Feel Better
Anonymous music entertainment and former Marlian music sensational rapper Mohbad are back with a new impressive Amapiano beat single titled Feel Better. Anonymous Music is Mohbad’s self-created label after his dispute with his former label. The artiste is known for his unique style of approaching songs, be they of the Amapiano or Afrobeats genre. This latest song Feel Better is surely loveable and would take one to the dance floor.
#4. Shatta Wale – Standard
Ghanaian music phenomenon Shatta Wale continues the year on a good note as he drops his second single of the year titled Standard. Standard is an excellent song that should be on your playlist for this weekend. Hopefully, the widespread acceptance of this record will propel the Afro-classic crooner to new heights.
#5. Tayc – Carry Me
All-around talented Cameroonian-French musician Tayc makes his 2023 debut with a song titled Carry Me. In contrast, his latest jam Carry Me, is a fast, appealing follow-up to his earlier delivered tune, Dodo, which united him with Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold.
