1. Beyoncé announces Renaissance world tour concert film

Beyoncé has announced a new concert film based on this year’s massive world tour for her 2022 album, Renaissance. “When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” the musician, 42, says in the trailer for Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé. “My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged.” The trailer teases behind-the-scenes footage, showing Beyoncé rehearsing with her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, 11, who has been dancing on the tour, as well as interactions with her husband Jay-Z and their twins Rumi and Sir. The film will incorporate highlights from the world tour, documentary footage of the album’s recording and the tour’s conception, and the long-awaited music videos for the rumored accompanying visual album.

A post shared by Basketmouth (@basketmouth)

Legendary Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, seems ready to bury the hatchet with people he has offended, including AY Makun. The comic posted a video to his Instagram account on Monday, October 2, apologizing to people he offended in one way or another over the years. He then specifically apologized to his fellow comic, AY Makun, asking to be forgiven. Basketmouth also laid it out there that he has also forgiven him for his transgressions towards him.

He said, “To my guy AY I don’t know if my apology is still valid right now but if it is please forgive me for whatever I have done or said in the past that affected you in any way please forgive me. And I want you to know that I have forgiven you for whatever you did or said knowingly or unknowingly, it’s gone and I just want us to live in peace and harmony.” This comes after the two have had a beef spanning over a decade, and according to AY, it started as a result of ₦30,000. But based on Basketmouth’s account, he stated that AY messed with his loyalty, and he could not stand for that.

3. South Africa: Priddy Ugly announces he’s ‘quitting’ music

Rapper Priddy Ugly is hanging up his mic. Taking to his X timeline recently, he released a statement explaining that “Dust” will be his final album. “It’s been 15 years. That’s 3 albums and 3 mix tapes. That’s 5 EPs, 500 features, and thousands of verses, Millions of minds blown (that’s word to my pen). That’s a whole wife and daughter, some homies gained, some homies lost, some bruised egos and a whole lot of love, some wins, some losses, some horns, some crosses,” read the statement.

In a separate post, he wrote multiple messages on his timeline, detailing how his journey has been. “This last stretch of making music has been made completely daunting and it’s not coming from the audience. Creating the music has been organic and seamless, everything else has been very challenging. It has completely sucked the eagerness for me to want to keep doing it in this way. I’ve had to be my No 1 fan, my biggest motivator and source of inspiration. The artists and producers I’ve created with really fueled my energy when my spirit was completely depleted. The conversations had and love shared boosted me in times where I was literally fighting for my life.”

4. Claudine Gay becomes first Black president of Harvard University

Harvard University inaugurated Claudine Gay on Friday, September 29, as the 30th president of the Ivy League school, making her the first black person and second woman to lead the prestigious university. “I stand before you today humbled by the prospect of leading Harvard, emboldened by the trust you have placed in me, and energized by your own commitment to this singular institution and to the common cause of higher education,” she said in her inauguration speech.

She thanked her family for their support, including her mother, Claudette Gay, who died earlier this year. “I wish very much that she were here, if only for the chance to hear her say, ‘I told you so,’” Gay said. Her father, Sony Gay Sr., husband, Chris Afendulis, and her son, Costa Gay-Afendulis, were in the audience. Gay’s presidency officially began in July. The former Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences dean replaces previous president Lawrence S. Bacow, who announced in June that he would step down after the 2022–23 academic year.

5. Jude Bellingham continues to follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps with latest La Liga goal against Girona

Jude Bellingham continues to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, with the Englishman matching another goal record. The 20-year-old midfielder has made an immediate impact at Santiago Bernabeu on the back of his €103 million (£89m/$108m) summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund. He hit the ground running in Spanish football, with the target found on five occasions through his first four La Liga appearances.

That feat has only previously been managed by Portuguese superstar Ronaldo, and Bellingham is keeping up with the pace set by Real’s all-time leading scorer. He was on target again during Los Blancos’ latest fixture against Girona. Bellingham is now up to six goals in the Spanish top flight after just seven games. That is the same return that five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo managed during his debut campaign with Real back in 2009–10. No player has posted a better record for the club in the 21st century.
