1. Rema bags five iHeart Radio Music Awards nominations

Rema is the most nominated African act at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, with five nominations in three major categories. The music star was nominated alongside Burna Boy, Tems, Tyla, and Wizkid in the Best African Music Artist category. The Mavin Records star was also nominated in the Song of the Year, Best African Music Act, Best New Artiste (Pop), Best Collaboration, and Pop Song of the Year categories for his record-breaking single, “Calm Down,” featuring Selena Gomez. The 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards are set to air live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, April 1, from 8-10 p.m. ET.

2. Kanye West debuts grills

Controversial rapper Kanye West flaunted a pair of metal grills inspired by a James Bond villain on Wednesday. Ye posted a photo of his teeth encased in a shiny, solid metal accessory to his Instagram story. In addition to showing off the designer dentures, Ye shared a screenshot of a Google search for “james bond jaws,” a metal-mouthed villain portrayed by actor Richard Kiel in the films “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker.”

On Wednesday, one outlet reported that the Grammy winner had his teeth removed to make way for the dentures, which reportedly cost $850,000. Beverly Hills-based celebrity dentist Thomas Connelly, who crafted the grill, denied the reports. “He did not have his teeth removed,” Connelly confirmed. “He still has a full dentition. Healthy and happy.”

3. South Africa: Tyla set to hit the stage at The Governors Ball 2024

Prominent South African Afrobeats singer Tyla will be performing at the Governors Ball Music Festival. The Governors Ball Music Festival is a yearly multi-day music event held in New York City. This year’s edition is set for June 7–9 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York. The “Water” hitmaker will be gracing the stage on the second day of the festivities alongside other international acts such as 21 Savage, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sabrina Carpenter, and Sexyy Red.

4. Global Citizen, pgLang, Ghanaian President partner for ‘Move Afrika: Ghana’

International advocacy organization Global Citizen, Kendrick Lamar-owned creative imprint pgLang, and H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, alongside H.E. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, on Wednesday announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos that Accra, Ghana, will join Kigali, Rwanda, as a host city for this year’s Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience tour.

Move Afrika is a long-term, large-scale effort to pioneer first-of-its-kind international music touring circuit across Africa, driving economic investment, job creation, and supporting entrepreneurship opportunities in each host country. pgLang serves as the Move Afrika tour’s curator. The announcement follows last month’s inaugural Move Afrika: Rwanda, headlined by Grammy Award, Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Kendrick Lamar, created by Global Citizen and pgLang, alongside the Rwanda Development Board.

5. Anthony Martial’s agent confirms Man. United striker needs surgery

Anthony Martial’s agent has refuted rumors regarding the Frenchman’s absence from Manchester United training being due to a “lack of fitness.” It had been reported that the 28-year-old had been kept away from the first team’s training sessions under Erik Ten Hag due to a lack of fitness. However, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley has now confirmed to the media that the rumors are not true and that the Frenchman is in fact nursing a hip injury that will require surgery.

His statement read: “What is said about him is completely false. He was not excluded from the group and he has no problem with the coach, Erik ten Hag. Anthony [Martial] has been in Manchester for nine seasons, and if he was not a great professional then he would not have been at the club for so long. He is simply going to undergo a small operation on his adductors, which he should have done for a while and which did not allow him to be 100 percent, so he will do it now.”
