Last Week’s Best Beauty Looks Underscored The Diverse Appeal Of Melanin

hen the week started with the Governor’s Awards, we knew we were in for a heck of a beauty parade considering how celebs stepped up their game to make an impression. But nothing could have prepared us for the showdown that unfolded thanks to the BAFTA tea party and several movie premieres that studded the week. In all, last week was indeed a week of merciless slay as the stars came shimmering in spectacular red carpet makeup looks and hairstyles that served ten.

The Looks

For the Governor’s Awards, one of our favorite red carpet makeup looks was spotted on Taraji P. Henson who did justice to subtle glam. The A-lister married lightly-filled brows, smokey eyes, and glossy lips in a way that turned heads but didn’t impose its presence. Plus, her gold eyeshadow was an elegant nod to her gold-embellished number and mani. No doubt, if effortless red carpet glam was a person, it’d be this version of Ms. Henson.

Meanwhile, as Taraji P. Henson played the understated card, Skai Jackson preached full glam. And girl, did she deliver! For the Golden Globe’s after-party, the actress opted for a sheer black cut-out fit elevated by a femme fatale doll-up. Her look featured heavily lined eyes reminiscent of the ancient Egyptian Queens who started wars with the bat of their eyelids. As if that wasn’t enough, glossy red lips were leveraged to push the stakes even higher. This offering introduced a fiercer side of Jackson we rarely see, and we love it.

Hair

Last week also saw celebrities take unconventional steps in the hair department. On one hand, Teyana Taylor went bold with a red pixie cut and Fantasia Barrino-Taylor transformed her iconic pixie into an edgy mullet. If this switch-up is any indication, we can predict that a lot of exciting hairstyles will pop up in 2024.
