1. Queen Latifah to host 54th NAACP Image Awards
On Tuesday, BET and the NAACP announced that multiple award-winning star Queen Latifah will host the 54th NAACP Image Awards, taking place on Saturday, February 25. “It’s an honor to host the 54th NAACP Image Awards, especially in the year we are celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop,” said Latifah. “This is a night to celebrate Black excellence and Black contribution to our industry and beyond. Celebrating one another, lifting each other up and you know we’ll have fun doing it!”
“Queen Latifah is one of our generation’s most influential and iconic voices. We are excited to collaborate with the groundbreaking megastar as she hosts the 54th NAACP Image Awards,” said Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET. “As always, we look forward to partnering with NAACP to celebrate Black creativity and ingenuity for an unforgettable night of Black excellence that will inspire, entertain, and empower viewers worldwide,” she concluded.
2. CKay sets new African record on Spotify with ‘CKay the First’

Multi-platinum-selling artiste, CKay’s second extended playlist “CKay the First” has become the highest streamed project by an African act in Spotify history. The project, which was released on August 30, 2019, has garnered over 661 million streams, surpassing Burna Boy’s “African Giant,” which has 660.9 million streams on the music platform.
The award-winning Nigerian singer has continued to break records and has scored multiple global chart toppers. It is worthy of note that CKay was the first African to reach one billion streams on Spotify.
3. South Africa: AKA’s girlfriend Nadia Nakai writes a heartfelt tribute to him
Nadia Nakai, the girlfriend of the late South African rapper AKA, has taken to Instagram to share an emotional tribute to her late partner. Nakai, who was the rapper’s partner until his death, lamented bitterly, writing that this wasn’t their future plan. She shared a video of them together joking and having fun and captioned it with her feelings, expressing her pain at his untimely passing.
The rapper was shot on February 10 in a drive-by in Durban while outside a restaurant with his friends.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a warning about a fake press release, shared on the social media accounts of the First Lady, about the phasing out of old naira notes. Posts of the fake statement, shared on the Facebook and Instagram accounts of the president’s wife, Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday morning, have since been deleted. One of her aides told the media that her accounts were briefly hacked.
The CBN reiterated that only old 200 Naira notes would remain in circulation until April 10. The old 500 and 1,000 naira notes were no longer legal tender, as had been implied in the fake statement, The CBN said it was “working with the law enforcement agencies to investigate, apprehend, and prosecute the purveyors of this fake news.”
5. Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta released from hospital after suffering head injury
Following a concussion injury sustained during Saturday’s game against Southampton, César Azpilicueta has been discharged from hospital and is recovering well at Cobham.

Chelsea have confirmed that Cesar Azpilicueta has been released from hospital following the head injury he sustained against Southampton. Azpilicueta was stretchered off and taken to the hospital after he was on the receiving end of a high boot from Southampton’s Sekou Mara in Saturday’s Premier League clash. The 33-year-old shared an update on Twitter, thanking everyone who helped care for him. “My family and I would like to thank everyone who has been looking after me since yesterday’s incident,” he wrote. “From the Chelsea medical team, to teammates and opponents, to St Mary’s and Cleveland Hospital and all staff members and doctors: a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now, time to recover and I will see you soon on the pitch!”
Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday morning that Azpilicueta has been discharged from the hospital, and the club will now monitor his recovery with a view to getting him back on the pitch as soon as possible. The match was stopped for 10 minutes as medical staff attended to his injury. Azpilicueta was given oxygen, sparking fears that the injury was a serious one, but the Spaniard was able to wave to fans as he was carried off.
