1. Prince to receive star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Prince, the legendary musician from Minnesota, is receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Announced as part of the 2025 class by long-time collaborator Jimmy Jam, Prince will be one of the few artists honored with a posthumous star. This recognition comes just as the music world celebrates the 40th anniversary of Prince’s iconic album “Purple Rain.”

The award adds to the growing list of tributes for the influential artist who passed away in 2016. While Prince never received a nomination during his lifetime, the Hollywood Walk of Fame selection committee has chosen to honor his immeasurable impact on music. Only a single posthumous star is awarded each year

2. Olamide drops surprise EP “Ikigai”

Nigerian rap king Olamide surprised fans with a new project on Wednesday, June 26, titled “Ikigai,” just hours after stealing the show at Davido and Chioma’s wedding. The 7-track project, which translates to “reason for being” or “life’s purpose” in Japanese, marks Olamide’s 10th solo and 15th project.

“Ikigai” boasts a unique blend of nostalgia and fresh collaborations. Fans can expect to hear current YBNL signees Fireboy DML and Asake link up on track three, “Uptown Disco.” The album also features a reunion with past YBNL members Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh on the closing track, “Synchro System.”

This new release is particularly exciting as Olamide had previously hinted at retirement after his 2023 album “Unruly.” The announcement comes with the promise of new hits. Olamide teased a song on his Instagram story before the official reveal, which turned out to be “Hello Habibi,” track number five on the project.

3. South Africa: Janet Jackson to perform at DStv Delicious Festival in September

Janet Jackson is set to headline the 11th edition of the DStv Delicious Food and Music Festival alongside R&B artist, Jill Scott. In celebrating 30 years of creative freedom, the festival promises to be a memorable celebration of South Africa’s culture, history, and traditions. It will include great music, delicious food, and activities that represent South Africa’s diverse cultures.

Set to take place on September 21 and 22 in Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, Johannesburg, the iconic American artists will also be joined by world-renowned local artists like Thandiswa Mazwai, Cassper Nyovest, Sjava, Focalistic, Soweto Gospel Choir, and others.

4. Snoop Dogg lands correspondent gig for Paris Olympics

Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg is about to add another title to his resume: Olympic correspondent. NBC tapped the “Doggfather” to be a special reporter for their coverage of the upcoming Summer Games in Paris. Snoop’s not new to the Olympics scene. In 2021, his hilarious commentary on the Tokyo Games, particularly his take on dressage, went viral.

This time around, he promises to bring his unique blend of sports enthusiasm and Snoop Dogg style to the City of Lights. “I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris,” the iconic rapper said in a statement. “It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness.”

5. Foden leaves England camp for birth of third child

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been granted temporary leave from England’s Euro 2024 camp to return home for the imminent birth of his third child, according to the PA news agency. The talented young player will be hoping to be back in time for England’s crucial last-16 clash against Germany, scheduled for this Sunday in Gelsenkirchen. The timeframe suggests Foden might miss some training sessions with the team, but the England staff are confident of his return before the knockout stage begins.

Foden’s absence is a blow to England’s attacking options, but manager Gareth Southgate will have other players in contention to fill the gap. The team will be aiming to maintain their momentum after a strong showing in the group stage.
