Multi-hyphenate musician and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams will become Louis Vuitton’s next creative director of menswear, the brand confirmed on Tuesday. The appointment fills one of fashion’s most high-profile vacancies, open since Virgil Abloh died in November 2021. A flurry of names has been touted for the position, including designers Martine Rose, Grace Wales Bonner, Samuel Ross, and Jonathan Anderson. KidSuper founder Colm Dillane is also thought to be in the running, having participated in the creation of Louis Vuitton’s Autumn/Winter 2023 collection.

It marks the first big decision of Pietro Beccari, who, on February 1, took the helm of the world’s largest luxury brand from outgoing CEO Michael Burke. Williams is no stranger to fashion. He is co-owner of streetwear brand Human Made with Kenzo creative director Nigo; founder of the Billionaire Boys Club and Icecream Streetwear brands; co-owner of G-Star Raw Denim; and a regular collaborator with Tiffany. The entrepreneur ventured into beauty with the gender-neutral brand Humanrace in 2021. Williams is also among those slated to unveil new design concepts at Moncler’s latest Genius activation during London Fashion Week on February 20.

2. Burna Boy’s ‘Love, Damini’ certified silver in the UK

Burna Boy’s 6th album, “Love, Damini” has achieved another feat as it has been certified silver in the United Kingdom. On February 10, the Brits Awards, which is the certification body for the UK, posted on its official Twitter page that “Love, Damini” had been certified silver in the United Kingdom.

This is another giant stride for the Nigerian megastar, who is at the forefront of exporting Nigerian and African music to the world. After getting a Brit silver plaque, Burna Boy will have his eyes on a gold plaque as he aims to continue asserting himself as one of Africa’s biggest music exports.

3. South Africa: AKA’s tribute details announced

AKA’s memorial service has been announced, and the late rapper’s life will be commemorated at the Sandton Convention Center on Friday. The 35-year-old rapper was shot dead on Friday night outside a popular restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. His tribute details were provided in a statement shared on AKA’s socials. The late star will be laid to rest at a private funeral on February 18. AKA’s memorial will be streamed online.

4. Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime makes history

Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII halftime performance once again reminded us why she’s the superstar she is, as even the smaller details surrounding it were amazing. Justina Miles, a Philadelphia native, made history as the first deaf female to provide American Sign Language interpretation during the show. That interpretation of Rihanna’s biggest hits had social media buzzing.

Miles could be seen on a split screen with Rihanna during parts of the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show that aired on Fox. She was also on the field at State Farm Stadium in Glendale during the pregame show, where she signed during Sheryl Lee Ralph’s performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

5. Mason Greenwood won’t play for Man Utd this season as internal investigation continues

Mason Greenwood has reportedly seen the rest of the 2022–23 campaign written off at Manchester United as the club continues an internal investigation. The 21-year-old forward was suspended by the Red Devils shortly after his arrest in January 2022. Greenwood has subsequently seen all charges relating to attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. While Greenwood has been cleared to resume his professional career, United is still looking into the events and accusations that led to the England international being taken into custody and subjected to a lengthy legal process.

Reports say that said investigation will not be completed any time soon, with Greenwood expected to sit out the remainder of the season at Old Trafford before a decision is made on his future. United is said to be keen on reaching a conclusion in their case before the current campaign comes to a close, but they can’t offer any guarantees at this stage. That situation is leaving Greenwood in limbo, with his contract – which is due to run until 2025 – continuing to have been paid throughout his suspension.
