In fashion what difference does a year make? New trends, new technique development, and in times like this, fashion houses are cozying up to showcasing their latest collections virtually. Paris Men’s Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2021 took place from January 19-24 and per new normal, it was relegated to a virtual audience — a development that seems to have become the norm.
In September and early October, the women’s fashion week went on with a digital presence enhanced by a small number of live shows in Paris shown to a local audience. At that moment, it looked like things were going to reset and return to normal in 2021. But as Paris Men’s Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2021 debuted last week, the City, which is home to the Eiffel Tower, seems to still be on its edge while experiencing a third lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the lockdown and the global pandemic, designers proved they could shake things up with their presentations last week. Kim Jones delivered a stellar Dior Men collection. He offered a new take on the men’s wardrobe that suggests daring color combos – rich deep browns and purple with a pop of acid yellow, for instance.
Filmed in French government ministry building, Hermès, showed male models interacting as if in a laid-back business environment. With a bit of a retro vibe, Creative director Véronique Nichanian designs propose a more casual and comfortable approach.
Up-and-coming fashion brand Casablanca had its presentation with a look that embraces the 70s and 80s. Designer Charaf Tajer’s slick video depicted a number of young men and women living a glamorous party-filled life.
