Nigerian Afro-pop star, Omawumi Megbele, otherwise known as Omawumi has released a new extended playlist titled ‘In her feelings’. In this new body of work, the ‘Wonder Woman’ crooner talks about issues affecting the world and people in this present age.
The seven-track EP comes after the 37-year-old vocalist held an exclusive listening party for the release of ‘In her feeling’ at the View Rooftop in Lekki, Lagos on June 15, 2019.
The EP promo images show Omawumi in her signature Afro hairstyles, this time bigger than ever. Wearing a curve-flaunting emerald green fringed dress, she also reveals a sexier persona on the EP cover art.
From Afro-fusion and Jazz to R&B and reggae, Omawumi touches on multiple genres on six tracks titled ‘Without You’, ‘For My Baby’, ‘Mr Sinnerman’, ‘Away’, ‘True Loving’, ‘Tabansi’ and ‘Green Grass’. The songs on the EP offer a better perspective into Omawumi’s views on topics related to love, politics, personal struggles, life goals, emotional awareness and abuse.
The album opens up with the expertly produced afro-fusion, afro R&B Without You. It’s a proclamation or re-assurance of love to her husband. The song proves to be true and straight from the heart as there is an admittance of imperfection on her part.
The next song on the album, For My Baby, is a song of appreciation with a mix of high life beat and afro-folk percussion. Omawumi admonishes her fans to appreciate her lover for the way he loves her. ‘Mr. Sinnerman’ is a socio-political song about the terrible state of things in Nigeria. The reggae song tells of the role we all play in the sad state of Nigeria and its affairs.
The next track Away is a Fela-inspired afrobeat song. On it, Omawumi tries to push on how we should not dwell on all drawbacks, strife and heartbreak so we can live our very best of life. On True Loving, she delivers lyrics of love on an afro-ballad. It mostly centres on sex and the idolization of a certain man.
Tabansi is a beautiful afro-folk song with the perfect guitar chords and mind-blowing trumpets. It is a song about heartbreak and the imperfections of love that questions why a lover is reciprocating love with pain.
The EP closes with Green Grass, an afro-soul song which touches on the topic of awareness and assurance.
Sonically, In her feelings is a beautiful multi-genre EP and passes the necessary messages across loud and clear.
