The twin sister duo Sylvia Enekwe-Ojei and Olivia Enekwe-Okoji, founders of the non-conformist brand, Gozel Green, are bound on proving to the fashion world what originality looks like. The notions every designer experiences when creating a new collection varies from passion to curiosity to sticking to your gut and dreaming big, among others, and these notions can be seen in the carefully constructed collection the sister duo put out on Day 3 of the 2018 Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week.
Founded in 2012, the Gozel Green brand has come to establish itself as a fun-loving, risk taker. They’ve been known to step way out of the box with their designs, bringing art to life through original pieces you can bet haven’t been previously conceived by another fashion house.
The brand’s collection at Lagos Fashion Week didn’t stray much from what we are already accustomed to. The colour palette was very cool – filled with orange tones, black, grey and dark purple. The fabrics used were as bold as the designs – with thick latex fabric taking prominence. “Gozel Green” could also be seen printed on the sleeves, pockets and chest of some of the pieces, which added a bit of funk to the overall feel of each piece.
Asides from the eccentric cuts, the de-structured shapes and eye-catching textures, the designers went even further by adding Crocs as a part of the presentation, bringing extreme comfort into high fashion. Overall, the duo managed to convey their combined individuality yet allowed room for multiple meanings and interpretations to be derived by anyone who sees this collection.
