1. Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice to collab on Barbie movie soundtrack

On Thursday, May 25, Warner Bros. Pictures dropped a new trailer for its 2023 film, Barbie, which is titled the same as Nicki Minaj’s infamous personality. As the ending approached, viewers heard the talented artiste rapping over a sample of Aqua’s 1997 track “Barbie Girl.” On Twitter, reports confirmed Minaj’s involvement in the movie by sharing the highly anticipated film’s Barbie The Album lineup. Lizzo, Khalid, Kali, and more join the “Moment 4 Life” lyricist on the soundtrack.

Regarding the snippet of Barbie World (with Aqua), Nicki Minaj collaborated with Ice Spice for the track. “It’s ‘Barbie’ b**ch if you still in doubt,” the industry veteran rapped. After fans learned of the news, Twitter went haywire with Minaj’s name trending. Many of her Barbs believed that being on the Barbie project is an opportunity befitting for the Trinidadian-born songwriter given how the fashion doll has inspired her musically.

Seun Anikulapo Kuti is out of jail and off to Europe for his tour. The renowned Afrobeat musician has begun his summer tour, which had been on hold because of his trial. Earlier on Thursday, May 25, the singer announced that he was off to Zurich, Switzerland where his concert kicked off last night. “Euro tour kicks off tonight in Zurich,” he wrote on his Instagram stories, along with a picture of himself in an airplane.

He had initially shared details of his Europe tour last month, which was set to hold from May 20-August 16, 2023 across the UK, Italy, Spain, and Slovenia. His tour was temporarily on hold after the 40-year-old got arrested on May 15, due to his assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge, video evidence showed. Kuti got detained the following day at the state criminal investigation Department (SCID) and spent six days in detention. He was eventually released after meeting his bail conditions. His case has been adjourned until July 3, which gives him some time for his ongoing tour.

3. South Africa: Cassper Nyovest wraps up his album

Cassper Nyovest has decided on a date to drop the album he has been hinting about for more than two months. “Decided on an album release date today. We got 1 uncleared sample, might have to change the beat, but yeah, I just want to share the music now cause it’s therapy for me and I got a lot to talk about. Hope y’all dig it. Album title, date, cover and single soon,” he said on Twitter.

In his mentions, his fans were thrilled with the news, with some sharing insight on how it should be rolled out. Taking to his Twitter timeline previously, Cassper said it’s one for the books. In a separate tweet, he told a tweep who asked about genres that he didn’t dabble in others.

4. Fetty Wap receives six-year sentence after pleading guilty to drug charge

Fetty Wap has reportedly been sentenced to six years in federal prison on Wednesday for his role in a drug-trafficking scheme. According to reports, the sentence was handed down in federal court in Long Island. The New Jersey rapper, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, faced a mandatory minimum of five years, which he had previously argued for while prosecutors argued for nine years.

During his sentencing, Fetty apologized for his actions, telling the judge, “Me being selfish in my pride put me in this position today.” He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances last August. Elizabeth Macedonio, his attorney, says his involvement in the “instant offense” stemmed from “depression” and compounding “financial obligations” exacerbated by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

5. Man Utd facing FA Cup final injury crisis as Erik ten Hag confirms ‘serious’ issue for Antony

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Antony suffered a “serious” injury against Chelsea, with Manchester United also losing Luke Shaw in that contest. The Red Devils eased their way to a 4-1 victory over the out-of-sorts Blues at Old Trafford, but victory–one which secured a top-four finish and Champions League qualification–came at a price. Brazil international winger Antony went down in agony following a challenge from Trevoh Chalobah, leading to him leaving the field in tears and on a stretcher after just 29 minutes, while England left-back Shaw was replaced by Tyrell Malacia at half-time.

Ten Hag said afterward when asked for an update on the two stricken stars: “It’s difficult always to say, straight after the game, but, yeah, Antony is serious. Luke Shaw, we have to see. I don’t think it’s too bad but we have to wait 24 hours. We’ll have a diagnosis and we will know more.” The Dutch coach added when pressed on how long he could be without his fleet-footed South American forward and hard-working defender: “I don’t know [about Antony]. Everyone has seen he came off. I can tell you it is serious but we have to wait a minimum [of] 24 hours, then we know probably more about the status of the injury.”
