A puppet runaway show may seem rather bizarre to many––just imagine an entire fashion show full of tiny puppets. Well, you don’t have to image much because at the just concluded Milan Fashion Week, Moschino staged perhaps what would go down in history as the tiniest runway show in the world. A collection presentation with all puppet models.
It’s indeed the year of the bizarre as 2020 forces more fashion designers to look into other industries especially technology to showcase their designs. Earlier in the year, we saw Anifa Mvuemba of the brand Hanifa, use 3D technology to model her new collection, and later on, London fashion week featured an array of novel runway show types.
It appears there is so much more innovation to come if Moschino’s dramatic twist to runway shows as we knew it is anything to go by. Jeremy Scott, the creative director of the Italian luxury brand, worked closely with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop to create tiny puppet models and guests. Moschino puppet show 2020.
Look, there’s even Anna Wintour! Yes, among the guests, we could see some famous faces like Vogue’s Editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, and British Vogue’s Edward Enninful.
The puppet models wore a scaled-down version of the original outfits from Moschino’s spring-summer 2021 collection. This collection featured dresses with tulle skirts, exaggerated bows, collars, and capes. He played around with soft pastels, and bold colors to create a solid effect. These two elements seemed to work perfectly together; the flamboyant designs and the rather muted color scheme.
Speaking to CNN style, Jeremy says he misses working with real models, “I do miss working with real models and that energy and the energy of having a real audience and everyone gathered together. And I hope very soon I can do that in person again.” He also had his puppet look alike at the event wearing a Moschino shirt that aptly read, “I don’t speak Italian but I do speak Moschino.” Moschino puppet show 2020.
With a novel show like this, we all speak Moschino and what a creative language it is. We can’t help but wonder what’s next for the future of the runway.
