Naomi Campbell Celebrates Black History Month With Specially Curated Afrobeats Playlist

With barely a week left in February, the celebration of Black History Month across the United States is winding down but not for supermodel Naomi Campbell who just fueled the culture with a playlist that’s set to get both existing lovers and new Afrobeats converts jiving.
Tributes have been paid, awards have been given and appreciation has been shown to the pioneers who paved way for the freedom of black people. But to commemorate the special month, Naomi Campbell went a different route as she teamed up with Apple Music to curate a playlist in celebration of Africa’s fast-growing music genre, Afrobeats, which is already redefining global black culture and in general, music around the world.

The philanthropist, who seizes every opportunity to promote the potentials of the African fashion, music and entertainment industries, has always previously shared her love for Afrobeats and she let this reflect in her curated playlist. The playlist features tracks from the supermodel’s favourite artists including Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid and many others.
When asked to speak about the process she took to curate the playlist, Naomi Campbell said:
“Afrobeats makes me feel happy whenever I hear it. People just go to another level; it makes you want to dance and move. Burna Boy’s ‘Anybody’ and Wizkid’s ‘Joro’ are songs that give me feelings I can’t get elsewhere. I love the sound of ‘Anybody.’ I love the live sound of the band and Burna’s voice on top of it.
It’s a new sound but it sounds like live music, which is rare these days. I’m all about rhythm and bass, and I love the slow build of ‘Joro.’ It’s a sexy, deep, sensual song like it’s moving forward to reveal something from inside.”
You can listen to the playlist, beautifully curated in honour of Black History Month here.
