Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative Releases Short Film To Promote Mental Health Awareness | WATCH

In Nigeria today, many people are going through various phases of depression and sometimes their circumstance is worsened simply because they feel like they have no one to talk to who would really understand their plight. A non-profit organization, Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative (MANI) is focused on raising awareness on mental health and illnesses as well as working to connect those in need with mental health professionals.

The organisation, which was officially launched on June 11, 2016, by a team of young doctors and concerned individuals led by Dr Victor Ugo, has released a short film titled Oga John to give hope to those facing a mental health challenge who may be suicidal. The film was produced in partnership with Up In The Sky.

We may have been Alero, played by Ade Laoye, or have met an Alero at some point in our lives. The film seeks to inspire us to be like Oga John, played by Joseph Imoikor, who was mentally aware, perceptive and was able to offer help to Alero without being too intrusive. Like they say, “all we need do is care.”

Watch the short film, Oga John and pass it on!
