1. Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, brands Nigeria ‘My country’

During a recent panel discussion in Nigeria, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, referred to the country as “my country,” highlighting her pride in her Nigerian ancestry. The former actress, who discovered her Nigerian heritage through a genealogy test, expressed feeling “flattered and honored” by the warm reception she and her husband, Prince Harry, received during their visit to the African nation. Addressing a gathering of prominent women, Meghan emphasized her appreciation for the vibrant fashion culture in Nigeria, jokingly remarking about the need to incorporate more color into her wardrobe to align with local styles.

Reflecting on her ancestry, the duchess shared her excitement about exploring her heritage and understanding her roots–a sentiment echoed by many individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds. For Meghan, whose African American heritage initially left her with limited knowledge of her lineage, discovering her Nigerian descent was enlightening. This experience not only deepens her connection to her identity but also underscores the significance of exploring and embracing one’s cultural heritage.

2. Travis Scott and Kanye West team up on the Cactus Jack campaign

On May 9, Scott showed a sneak peek of the Nike Cactus Jack 1 T-Rexx shoes in two colors: Dark Mocha and University Red. He expressed his excitement about his first signature shoe and thanked his team and fans for their support, adding that the shoes are now available on his website. “A JOURNEY THAT FELT LIKE FOREVER IS FINALLY HERE. 3. Tems announces ‘Born in the Wild’ world tour dates

Afrobeats superstar, Tems has announced her “Born in the Wild” world tour in support of her upcoming debut album of the same name. The tour kicks off in London on June 12 and makes its way across Europe before hitting North America in late August. Here, Tems is set to perform in major cities like Miami Beach, Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles. Joining her on select dates will be Naomi Sharon, the first female artist signed to Drake’s OVO Sound, and the Nigerian-American singer Lekan.

Fans can expect a high-energy live show characterized by Tems’ mesmerizing vocals and captivating blend of Afrobeats, R&B, and alternative sounds. For tickets and more information, would-be goers can visit Tems’ social media pages or official website.

4. BNXN gets his first RIAA certification

Afrobeats star BNXN has a major career milestone to celebrate. The singer and songwriter has just received his first ever RIAA certification, all thanks to his feature on Wizkid’s global smash hit “Mood.” The song, from Wizkid’s chart-topping album “Made in Lagos,” has officially been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying over 500,000 units sold in the United States. This achievement marks not only BNXN’s first RIAA certification but also the second song from “Made in Lagos” to achieve Gold status, following the massive success of “Essence” featuring Tems.

5. PSG fans boo outgoing striker Kylian Mbappe after exit announcement

Kylian Mbappe, who is set to leave PSG, faced loud boos from Parc des Princes fans before their Sunday game, signaling their dissatisfaction with his exit. Although Mbappe hasn’t always had a good relationship with the ultra-vocal PSG fans, his impact on the club is undeniable. For instance, Paris Saint-Germain F.C. has won the League 1 Team of the Year six times and the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season five times with the talented forward.

But it seems Mbappe’s final days in PSG may not be so grand. Following their 3:1 defeat to Toulouse (Mbappe scored PSG’s only goal) on Sunday, May 12, the state of the team has dominated the discourse, echoing the sentiments behind the “boo” chants. With only a few league games to go and the Coupe de France final, many are wondering if the Golden Boy can perform more miracles before the season ends on May 25.
