Meghan Markle on Wednesday said that she suffered a miscarriage, writing in an article of her “unbearable grief” and society’s need for empathy at a time of huge loss and isolation. In an opinion article titled “The Losses We Share” published in The New York Times, Meghan Markle, actress, philanthropist, and wife of Prince Harry revealed that her miscarriage occurred in July.

She describes a normal morning feeding her dogs, taking her vitamins, and changing son Archie’s diaper, before feeling a sharp cramp. “I dropped to the floor,” Markle, 39, wrote. Adding, she had a “sense that something was not right. I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Prince Harry has not commented on the article, while a spokeswoman for the royal family at Buckingham Palace told the media on Wednesday the Duchess of Sussex’s miscarriage was a private, personal matter.

2. Nigeria: Burna Boy bags second Grammy nomination

Burna Boy’s latest album “Twice As Tall” has gotten him a second shot at winning a Grammy. The talented singer, on Tuesday, bagged a World Music Album nomination alongside Antibalas, Bebel Gilberto, Anoushka Shankar, and Tinariwen. Burna Boy, 29, lost in his first attempt to win a Grammy award after being nominated in the best world music album category in January 2020. 

“Twice As Tall” which is Burna Boy’s fifth album was released in August. Burna Boy, his mum cum manager, Bosede Ogulu, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, were the executive producers.

3. South Africa: Mzansi’s Thuso Mbedu in the running for ‘Star Wars’ role

South African actress Thuso Mbedu is in the running for a role in the upcoming Lucasfilm “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series that, if secured, could make her a household name in Hollywood. According to reports, the Emmy-nominated actress may be joining the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Ewan McGregor, in his upcoming series coming to Disney+.

Thuso is one of three actresses who secured a call back for one of the lead roles, the character of Riley. Thuso is up against fellow actress Anula Navlekar and Naomi Scott, who is popular for her role as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s live-action “Aladdin.”

4. Ghana: Nissan to open a vehicle assembly plant in Ghana

Nissan is set to open a vehicle assembly plant in Ghana with its longtime partner, Japan Motors Trading Company Ltd. (JMTC), appointed as its local partner in all new vehicle assembly facility in Tema, Ghana. The appointment is a result of a memorandum of understanding signed between Nissan and the government of Ghana in 2018 to lay the foundation for a sustainable automotive manufacturing industry in the country.

The first model to be assembled at the new facility will be the all-new Nissan Navara Pickup, unveiled by Nissan earlier this month. Nissan has a long heritage within the pickup segment and the new model will be produced to specifications created for the African market. The event for the big announcement of the Nissan Vehicle Assembly in Ghana was held in Accra and brought together key stakeholders in Ghana’s automobile industry.

5. Lewandowski, Messi, Ronaldo, Salah all included as FIFA The Best nominees revealed

The final shortlist for the 2020 FIFA The Best Men’s Player of the Year award has been revealed, with Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mohamed Salah all nominated for the prize. Barcelona superstar Messi, who won the accolade last year, leads the 11-man list of players up for the individual gong, which will be presented at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony on December 17.

Bayern striker Lewandowski is the man best placed to dethrone the Argentine, having already won the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award after firing the German outfit to Champions League glory in 2019-20.
