An Alabama woman who accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her when she was 13 has withdrawn her civil lawsuit against both men, according to court filings submitted on Friday. The unidentified woman had initially filed the lawsuit against Combs in Manhattan federal court before adding Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, in December. She alleged that she was assaulted in 2000 after Combs’ limousine driver offered her a ride to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party. The court document did not specify why the case was being voluntarily dismissed.
Jay-Z, who had repeatedly denied the allegations and sought to have his name removed from the lawsuit, called the withdrawal “a victory” and dismissed the accusations as a “fictional tale.” In a social media statement, he said, “The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere.” Meanwhile, Combs remains in custody in New York, facing federal sex trafficking charges.
