erhaps we ought to create a law that requires the world to give a standing ovation whenever a Black woman makes a major beauty statement. The only downside is that we would spend forever applauding as winning in the beauty department is something our Queens have mastered all too well. Last week was a sharp reminder of this as the days were littered with major events that necessitated celebrities to thrill, and Black stars did so in the latest makeup trends and hairstyles that hit hard.
The Looks
Makeup
When Beyoncé calls, we have no choice but to answer. Last week, Queen Bey kicked off her already-posed-to-be-successful Renaissance World Tour and we followed every step of the way taking notes on her vocal, fashion, and beauty renderings. One of the several doll-ups that unequivocally shone was the soft beat that featured slim brows, smokey, metallic lids, and rosy cheeks. It embodied the essence of the in-season 90s makeup trend that currently has celebs in a chokehold.
Elsewhere, new mom, Keke Palmer continued the streak of celebrities favoring witty makeup trends in her Mother’s Day shoot. For the photo, “Big Boss” made a case for the updated cut-crease trend accented with witchy lashes and, of course, a sharp wing. The heavy eye makeup was married with soft lips and understated brows for a balancing effect. And yes, her cute son sitting comfortably on her lap was the cuteness overload the shoot needed.
Hair
The world is not over Netflix’s Queen Charlotte, and it doesn’t seem to go that route anytime soon. Last week, vocal powerhouse Alicia Keys promoted her Queen Charlotte video in a chic Dior two-piece perfectly complemented with a regal hairdo. The mane merged cornrows and volume in a way that screamed regal, regal, and nothing but royal.
