From the rapper in Los Angeles whose quirky hairstyle inspires a blogger in Lagos to the actress in Johannesburg whose glossy lips appeals to the model in Paris, glam really does bring us together. Last week, Black celebrities and beauty influencers across the globe drew from their beauty arsenal to give us plenty of inspiration and continue to unite us under Black beauty.

With several 90s trends showing up in full flesh this year, many are having a dear moment reliving their favorite looks from way back. One of such in the beauty space is the glossy finish. Lip gloss was totally the thing in the 90s, and now it’s back. So how do you squeeze every ounce of it this season (pun intended)? Rock it in two glistering ways. Last week, South African actress, Thuso Mbedu played her sheen card twice — on her lips and lids, and we certainly approve.
Meanwhile, Jessica White made it a point to put her eyes on display with a look that emphasized their shape. The magic began by filling her long brows and graduated to her eyes. The choice of matching her brow pencil and eyeshadow hue offered some serious depth to the face card, effectively keeping her eyes as the main event. Furthermore, her spider lashes (another 90’s beauty trend) solidified the goal. In a bid to add more color to the look, White opted for blush lips. Well played.
Hair
Last week, actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live sporting one of the most preferred hairstyles of the season — Bantu knots. The choice of hairstyle was a witty way to incorporate the “culture vibe” into her ensemble.
