Eponymous Nigerian bespoke fashion brand Mai Atafo, founded by Ohimai Atafo has released a new womenswear collection tagged ‘Hybrid‘. The collection debuted at the Arise Fashion Week runway earlier this year.
According to the brand,
“The womenswear collection features twin sisters; Tiffany and Stephany as the muse, with the idea of recreating each look in identical pairs. The collection is a fusion of styles from the brand’s various lines; The Bridal Atelier, Menswear Suit and Trad, infusing an element of each line to create the womenswear collection, Hybrid.
There is an authentic mix and harmony of masculinity and femininity in the collection which features tulles, velvet, lace, satin, sheer, delicate hand beaded corsets, tartan and the Isi Agu.
The collection draws inspiration from the Isi Agu (from the Igbo people) popularly known as ‘head of the lion’ which is mostly worn by the king, who is known to be confident and strong; infusing the Isi Agu on streetwear as a key touch into everyday wear for every season; the white tee and turtleneck Isi Agu-infused tops depict women as strong, confident and feminists.
The white corset, hi-low tulle skirt with a crop jacket and ivory jacquard suit is the touch of bridal added to the collection for women who defy the norm.
The glen plaid suit and tuxedo paired with a black corset mixes feminine with the menswear.
The burgundy ‘tradxedo’ is a feminine interpretation of the brand’s famous menswear tuxedo and trad with a velvet throw on and trimmings.”
