Weddings are beautiful, the act of tying the knot is one that carries conflicting feeling; happy to be moving into the next chapter of your life and a little bit of sadness as you say goodbye to a more familiar lifestyle. Daughter of the late Dr Dora Akunyili, former Director General of NAFDAC, Chidiogo Akunyili got hitched to her love Andrew Parr this past weekend and by all indications, she was very certain of her decision of a happily ever after with her beau.
The unconventional wedding which took place in Nigeria saw the undoubtedly happy bride in a beautiful and unique Ankara-infused wedding dress made by Nigerian designer Wanger Ayu. Chidiogo Akunyili, who’s a Writer, Speaker and Founder of She ROARs, shared a sketch of her dress and the caption tells of how much she’s always wanted an African-inspired wedding dress.
For the white wedding, the groom looked super dapper rocking a white traditional Nigerian caftan with a colourful pocket square that gave his look an unquestionable bit of personality, matching the bride’s dress.
But what makes this such an unconventional wedding is that even though the white wedding ceremony was held at her home town in Madonna, Agulu (Eastern Nigeria), it was held before the traditional – this is completely unheard of and that’s what makes this ceremony perfect in every way. Obviously, this was just the way the couple wanted it and not in fulfilment of any dated traditions.
On a side note, the bride’s skin is what melanin goals are made of!
The couple looked so in sync with each other and I couldn’t help feeling all mushy just looking at how happy and in love they are. The most beautiful scene from their images has to be this video of the duo dancing to traditional eastern Nigerian music.
