f there’s one phrase that holds true for fashion as it does for beauty, it’s that less is more and last week, this reverberated across the world as Black women defined beauty in subtle yet glamorous takes. As they put their best faces forward with barely-there face beats and rich-detailed hairstyles, we were pleasantly wrapped into a world they created — one of timeless, refreshing and appealing beauty looks. Indeed, it was evident the pride women of color take in their skin and how they play it up with every given opportunity. Black is beautiful they say and certainly, this beauty shinned in more ways than one. Black women beauty
The Looks
American singer Justine Skye served a delicious platter of brown on a look she shared on Instagram. “Wow, I can’t believe I invented the color brown,” she rightly captioned the look that sees her in a brown soft-toned eyeshadow with matching glossy lips. Also on her eyes was a tint of silver eyeshadow that played up her eyes some more. Surely, this is a look to opt for if accentuating your brown skin and stunning the internet is your aim.
French model Didi Stone conjured her inner Cleopatra in a look that put her eyes on focus. From her masterfully filled brows to the ink-black eyeliner that graced both her upper and lower lids, everything played its part in putting her eyes on center stage. Just like Justine, Didi incorporated a subtle tint of silver eyeshadow to the corners of her eyes for an added pop. Ms. Stone sure knows her to play up her assets. Black women beauty
Hair
It’s always a delight to see Black women pay tribute to the culture with their looks. Whether it’s a hairstyle, makeup, outfit, or accessory choice, there’s something so inspiring, rich and earth-only beautiful when the motherland is proudly showcased. This was certainly true for Leah Harvey’s hairstyle last week. The British actress opted for mini Bantu knots as created by celebrity hairstylist, Carl Campbell as she spent her day doing press. The hairstyle complemented the Louis Vuitton buff dress and biker boots she paired with it.
What’s better than the loyal and trusted cornrows? Cornrows with sleek baby hair, of course! Over in South Africa, musician Nhlanhla Mafu put this to the test and the result speaks for itself. Amazing, sleek and delicate are some of the words that come to mind as we beheld her perfectly laid edges that fell delicately both to the sides of her face and temples. The two crystals on her temples were the added bling the look needed. Well played Nhlanhla, well played. However, Black women beauty
