Nigerian music sensation Asake has secured a spot on the official soundtrack for NBA 2K25, a significant milestone in his rapidly growing international career. Known for his unique blend of Afro-fusion and Fuji music, Asake’s track “Wave,” featuring British rapper Central Cee, is included in the 2025 edition of the widely popular basketball video game. 3. Cynthia Erivo calls out fan-edited “Wicked” poster for erasing her image

Cynthia Erivo has expressed her frustration over a fan-edited “Wicked” poster that altered her image in a way she found deeply offensive. On Wednesday, October 16, the actress took to Instagram to call out the fan modification, which erased much of her face. Erivo compared the poster to other offensive content, including AI-generated images and inappropriate questions she’s received about her role as Elphaba. Also, she emphasized that such edits degrade her and others, describing the fan-made changes as “deeply hurtful.” In her post, Erivo highlighted the significance of her character’s original gaze in the poster, explaining that it was meant to connect with viewers in a powerful, wordless way.

The original “Wicked” poster, released by Universal Pictures, featured Erivo’s Elphaba staring directly into the camera, with Ariana Grande’s Glinda whispering in her ear. While the image paid tribute to the Broadway show’s iconic poster, key differences, such as Erivo’s visible eyes and green lipstick, gave it a fresh interpretation. In the fan-edited version, however, her eyes were covered, her lipstick was changed, and her expression was altered, sparking her criticism. Reposting the unedited version, Erivo urged her followers to appreciate the authentic portrayal, stating, “Let me put this right here, to remind you and cleanse your palette.” “Wicked,” directed by Jon M. Chu, is set to release on November 22, 2024.

The tribute highlights the deep admiration Davido has for his father, whose business acumen continues to leave a lasting impact on Nigeria’s economic landscape.

Adedeji Adeleke, a billionaire businessman and CEO of Pacific Holdings Limited, is leading this ambitious power plant project in collaboration with Chinese engineering firms. Scheduled for completion by January 2025, the plant is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing Nigeria’s power challenges. In addition to his business pursuits, Adeleke is the president of Adeleke University, underscoring his long-standing contributions to the nation’s development. Davido’s public praise reflects their close bond and serves as a reminder of Adeleke’s influential presence in both business and education.

5. Lionel Messi to be awarded MARCA America Award for soccer legacy

Lionel Messi, Inter Miami’s star forward, has been named the inaugural recipient of the MARCA America Award, an accolade that honors his enduring soccer legacy. Messi, already one of the most decorated athletes in history, will add this prestigious title to his collection of accolades. Throughout his illustrious career, the Argentine has secured eight Ballon d’Ors, three FIFA Best Men’s Player awards, four UEFA Champions League titles, two Copa Americas, and a FIFA World Cup, among numerous other honors. The award, given by Spain’s leading sports publication MARCA, cements Messi’s status as one of the most influential athletes worldwide, even as he continues to make waves in Major League Soccer.

MARCA, which has been a cornerstone of sports journalism for nearly a century, has previously honored global icons through its MARCA Legends Awards. Past recipients include Michael Jordan, Pele, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Tom Brady. In 2024, the outlet expanded its reach to the U.S. with the introduction of the MARCA America Award, recognizing athletes across various sports such as soccer, UFC, boxing, the NFL, MLB, and the NBA. Messi, who has made a significant impact both on and off the pitch in the U.S. with Inter Miami, becomes the first-ever winner of this new award, marking another milestone in his storied career.
