Whenever I get around to organising my closet, it gives me so much joy even though I know things will be out of place before the day is over. For some people, their closet stays organised all the time which leaves me wondering “how do they keep their closet so organised”
If there is anything I have learnt in life, it is the fact that you have to be intentional about the things you truly desire and the same can be said for an organised closet.
If you’ve always had organising your closet on your to-do list, there’s no better time than now to do so and Atlanta-based fashion and lifestyle influencer just simplified the process to help you do it like a pro!
Maintaining an organised closet is an ongoing process since updating your wardrobe is also an ongoing process. However, there are certain things you can do to ensure you don’t have to spend so much time rearranging your clothes over and over. Seeing as you are spending an unprecedented amount of time at home, you’ve officially run out of excuses and now is your time to just do it!
Here are Macy Stucke’s 6 tips on how to organise your closet like a pro…
#1. Abide by the one year rule

If you haven’t worn something in the past year, there’s a good chance you never will so donate it or give it away – but never let an item you DON’T wear, take space away from the items you DO wear.
#2. Invest in better hangers
Matching hangers make a WORLD of a difference. They create a uniform, cohesive look and instantly make your closet look neater, even when it’s messy.
#3. Group like with like

Dresses with dresses, jeans with jeans, workout tanks with workout tanks, long sleeve shirts with long sleeve shirts, etc. — you get the idea. Decide the best place to store each item as a group (i.e. hang pants in closet, fold and stack sweaters in a dresser). Working in groups of items will help you figure out how much space you need.
#4. Properly utilize prime real estate
Reserve the front and middle of your closet for clothes you wear most often. Lesser-worn items like formal wear and out-of-season should be stored towards the back and on the upper shelves.
#5. ROYGBIV
Within each group (i.e. jeans or dresses) colour code by the rainbow – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. This simply makes for better aesthetics.
#6. Same direction and from edge to edge

Pretty self-explanatory, but always hang everything in the same direction. When hanging anything on a clip hanger, place one clip at the edge of the garment on one side and the other clip at the edge of the garment on the opposite side, even if the garment sags in the middle, promise it will look better when hanging!
