how-to-layer-clothes-for-spring

While the layered look is often associated with the fall and winter seasons, spring layering is quite an art in itself. As the temperature gets warmer in the day yet chilly in the evenings/night, you’re forced to replace that bulky parka with layered looks that are much more versatile, functional and a lot more stylish. As spring officially kicks off on March 20, now is the time to master how to elevate your spring styling game. If you’re wondering how to layer clothes for spring, you’ve come to the right place.

A layered look is borne out of the combination of more than one piece of clothing on the same half of the body. Think bomber jackets on turtle necks and blazers on silk blouses. Layering is all about being creative and trying out unique combinations of varying lengths and textures.

A layered style allows you to take off and also add pieces of clothing depending on the weather’s mood swings. But there’s a right way to rock the layered look and anything short of that would have you looking like a homeless fellow who is literally a walking closet. Stunning layered looks don’t just happen. Certainly not! Factors like print and texture mixing, color coordination, and the right proportion are some of the key aspects for nailing that perfect layered look.

Check out 6 style tips on how to layer clothes for spring…

#1. Proportion is key

Each element, that is clothing, of the entire ensemble shouldn’t be of the same length. Think a blouse with a light-weight hip-length jacket, or a two-piece with a floral-themed kimono. The goal is to ensure that each piece gets its own moment in the sun without being overshadowed by anything. Play with lengths, it’s totally advised.

#2. Drape your jacket

This style keeps it light and still shows off your curves. Draping a jacket gives off that cool boss chick vibe, especially with a fabric that’s not packing heavy underneath. With a draped look, no one will ever think you’re new to the game of layering! (Note: For those who don’t know, draping your jacket simply means throwing it over your shoulders without necessarily wearing it.) Surely, you’ve come across the look many times on style stars.

#3. Try out a monochromatic look

If you have no desire of blending in with the crowd or mix-and-match colors, then try layering in several shades of one color. This commands an instant chic effect and everyone will easily spot you a mile away! Monochrome is a great idea because styling is relatively straight forward and all you have to decide is the tone with which you build the entire ensemble.

#4. Plain x pattern wins

While having fun with various patterns is totally welcome, pairing plain with pattern is equally delightful. Whether you choose to work this magic with similar or varying hues, the bombshell result stays the same. Try rocking a print runched dress underneath a solid-colored blazer or kimono and watch the compliments flood in.

#5. Add some oomph with boots!

Something else to consider when wondering how to layer clothes for spring is great footwear like boots. A layered look plus boots equal supermodel off-duty! Boots double as a fashion statement piece and warmth provider during the cold seasons, and having a few waterproof options ensures you’re ready for the rains that accompany spring. When styling boots, always remember: the higher the boot, the prettier the outfit.

#6. Let turtlenecks do the talking

The turtleneck does well for seamless layering but we know that if turtlenecks are not styled well, you could risk looking grandma-ish. Try throwing on a blazer or a teddy coat for a contemporary look.

Think about the layered look like an onion, there’s always something to unravel.
